Recently got the blue screen while at watching videos on facebook. The error at the bottom said something about USB driver error, but I didn't get to write down the specifics before it restarted. After restarting, the PC power was still on, but didn't boot up at all. I did a hard restart and the computer's fans would spin and the drivers sounded like there were booting, but there was no display. I checked the GPU and CPU fans and there were spinning just fine.
I checked all the cables and and unplugged and replugged them to make sure they were A-ok. I swapped out the HDMI cable with another computer and tested both my TV and a laptop and the wires are just fine. I plugged it into the GPU and the television will recognize there was a HDMI connections, but no actual connection. I don't have an internal speaker and I ordered one before posting. Does anyone know what might be going on? Did I fry my mobo?
Thank you ahead of time.
Here are my specs:
AMD FX 6300
Gigabyte GA-970A-DS3P
Crucial Ballistix Sport 8GB (2 x 4GB) DDR3-1600
1 x XFX Black Edition Double D R9-280A-TDBD Radeon R9 280 3GB
at the time the only thing I have plugged up that might have drawn a little bit more energy might have been my cell phone through the USB 3.0 port. im going to buy an internal speaker and see if something died. Its been work for six months fine With the psu but idk
I don't think that 500 watts is enough the power supply was probably running at 90% load when gamming and could possibly have been supplying unstable power to the components.
cpu 220watts under full load so idk 150 when gaming? gpu 170watts ram ?? hardddrive?? usb divices plugged in using power??? Other devices using power??
Several people on the forms strongly do not recommend the corsair cx power supplies
You could try getting a live cd of Linux such as Ubuntu there is no install to the hard drives required but if it doesn't show a picture ether then you might have a hardware problem.
It is hard to say whether you did fry them or not, if you have spare parts even low end parts that fit swapping them out until the PC gives a screen is about all you can do.
You can test the power supply with at tester such as this one
i recommend testing the power supply before you go and barrow someone else's part to swap with. you don't want to have to replace a friends part because your pc fried it. while this is unlikely that it is the power supply just being junk it can happen, more then likely something happened to the motherboard or the video card, it is very hard to say over the internet.
I have just had to RMA my motherboard because it was causing a blue screen after some time when you loaded the video card, but the video card works fine in my server under load as does the power supply, my guess is for me the components on the board that don't have heat sinks got to hot since i have everything inside of a small case with at the time insufficient air flow.
Seasonic is the brand many people trust they even make some of the guts of other companies i think XFX is one of those companies and corsairs higher end power supplies as well. You may want to check the internets on the power supply and who makes the guts of it.
I have always used XFX power supplies non have failled me yet, i also had a cheap uh i think its a diablo power supply (idk the sticker is missing) that runs a server 24/7. quote from wiki XFX exclusively uses Seasonic topologies in their power supplies.
This is the one I am using. XFX it does look like its out of stock or its an old model idk.
other xfx i bought for system before current one xfx 2
One that is from '12 gaming rig and now running in server for uh a year or so 24/7 Diablo Looks like diablotek got out of the gaming style power supplies.
