Hi Forum! I was looking for some advice on upgrading my pc. Currently these are my specs:
Core i5 2500k Overclocked w/ Hyper 212+
Evga GTX 560 Superclocked
16GB Kingston HyperX Ram 1600Mhz
Gigabyte GA-Z77x-D3H
OCZ 700W PSU
OCZ SSD 128GB and Caviar Black 1TB
All Enclosed in a NZXT 410
Currently I love my pc for what it does but i need the extra edge of power. I am a heavy gamer and i also use my pc for brute force hacking and bitcoin mining. I was thinking about getting a new i7 haswell and a gtx 780 (or two 760's) with a new asus mobo. My budget for the upgrade is gonna be around $1500 but im willing to go a couple hundred more if possible. Any ideas out there? Thanks in advance!
CPU is fine for gaming, but if you are set on an i7, I think it would be wiser to go Ivy Bridge than Haswell. It'll save you a motherboard's worth of money in your upgrade budget to go towards the GPU.
What Vargas said about the cpu is good advice. As far as the gpu goes if you are useing it for bitcoin mining I would get an hd 7970 or two or wait a few months for the amd 8xxx series to be anounced on september 25. Also if you get an amd they have a cool new never settle package where you get to pick your free games. If you want to go with nvidia they will not mine bitcoins or do open cl nearly as well but they are great for gaming and cuda. I would get two 770s and keep your cpu and motherboard or a 780 with new cpu and motherboard.
I would look towards upgrading the GPU. Your CPU is fine for gaming; no bottlenecks there. But I mean, if you have $1500 to play with, why not go nuts? I'll be back with a few upgrade paths you can take.
This completely changes up your platform. I honestly wouldn't recommend the i7 unless you plan on doing heavy video editing/rendering.
Here's option 2:

I also recommend looking at upgrading your monitor. Depending on what you have now, a 1440p monitor could be a solid upgrade for you...especially with all the GPU options above. For $259, it's a steal...
I recommend either option 2 or option 3. I'm not sure your current motherboard fully supports SLI/Crossfire, so that's why I included a new motherboard with each path. I also don't think your PSU will be able to handle the additional GPUs. 700w would be cutting it close with dual 7970s and overclocking.
[Edit]
I did some research, and from what I can tell, your motherboard should be able to support 2 way SLI/Crossfire without a problem. So, you can drop the motherboard in option 2 and 3 to help save some money, or you can put the extra cash elsewhere.
Thanks alot for all the research you did man i think i might go with option 1 because i love nvidia for gaming and im currently using my 42 inch samsung tv plus an old laptop lcd as a secondary monitor but that 1440p monitor is nice too. Thanks again!
