PC shutting off during a game...HELP

I have recently got a new graphics card and if i get 1 hour into game play my computer will shut down. I don't know if its the card, the PSU or the CPU. I recently was force to switch to an nvidia card, the card is ok, but im not a fan, this same thing happened to my dad and he switched over to a more powerful amd graphics card and that did it. What should I do. Somethings getting too hot.

uninstall drivers of the old gpu if you switched from amd to nivida

i did, its the first thing i did

Maybe you bumped into your CPU heatsink or something??

No oh wait maybe when you launch a game your GPU takes to much power = PSU cuts out??

What are your temps on CPU and GPU?

you should open your pc, take of the cpu heatsink and put on new thermal paste. if that dont help what is your graphics card and what psu you have (wattage brand etc)

my psu is an inland 500w 80 plus silver power supply

im getting 55 degrees celcius for my cpu bc its overclocked

on the gpu im getting between 77-80 Celsius bc its a reference card and 80c is the defualt

but what graphics card

GTS 450

You mean this one?

Silver Series ILS-500 500 Watt ATX Power Supply

What power supply do you have.

take off  your side panel and put a box fan blowing in your case to see if it is a heat problem i would do this first only takes time and not money. Then try using the gpu in another computer. i think its most likely your low end psu.

dayumn. i had same issuse i can remember now. but it was weird. i had my cpu on a expansion card with ram on it and my machine would shut down. but that is unlikley to happen to others

It might be a bit easier if you post [relevant] specs of your PC that could be a part of the issue, such as the PSU, CPU, Mobo, etc., since there are several variables. My first guess is the CPU Cooler not being able to dissipate enough heat from the CPU, so it overheats and shuts down as a result. My second guess is the PSU not providing enough energy during the game, and shuts down. Third guess is thermal paste. Again, posting the relevant specs would make it fairly easier to narrow down the cause.

my spec are on my profile

Man , its time to upgrade .

IF i was going to try and fix that i would do this aftermarket cpu cooler , 8 gigs of ram 2x4 ,  a cheap 120 ssd .

this is my updrage from an intel pentium 4 ht with 2 gb of ddr2. Money is tight

cpu cooler under 30 dollars , another stick of the same ram , I completely understand i had close to that same build couple years ago. I would start with the cpu cooler .  Then get the the second stick of ram . Then i would get a 970 amd mb . Then grab a 7750 or two later on . I post toastied a few gts 450 in sli and i cant recommend them . Your psu should be okay but its a very low grade psu . You have possiblity of multiple sources of your issues. I really would try the fan trick tacopat suggested first .

I tried it with the window open instead, i have a small room, and it works just fine, but when its closed it will heat up my room, and i do video editing and stream with this build too.
