PC parts for my friend

basically my friend has a 1200-1300 dollar budget for his pc and i was wondering if this was good or not if there is any way i could cut costs it would be great

forgot to add the link http://pcpartpicker.com/p/xt3R

and forgot to mention that the rig would be used for mostly gaming but a little bit of editing

Good sir we can save your friend a few dollars but nothing to crazy.

CPU: Get the FX8320 instead, it has a 3.5ghz clock vs 4.0ghz on the 8350 and it is $20 less. Since you have the aftermarket cooler the 4.0ghz OC on the 8320 will be a cakewalk.

PSU: A Quality 650watt will do the job very well for your listed system, something like this: http://pcpartpicker.com/part/xfx-power-supply-p1650snlb9 The Hd7970 pulls under 400 watts with a OC 3960X, so even a 550W would do: Load Power Consumption - Metro 2033

Currently the XFX 650 is only $5 more then the 550 so its a great deal!

Other then those bits, it is pretty good. The CAS latency on that ram is a little high but i doubt it will matter much if at all with that much horsepower. What editing program is he going to use? Depending on the program a GTX670/GTX680 will benefit him more.

I would say this is a better build for the job
