PC I bought at a thrift store for $50.00

It had a bad bios flash. Recovered the bios & everything worked fine.
You never know what you'll find in a thrift store.
I stuck a Intel Xeon X5650 6 core 12 with Hyper Threading & clocked at 3.8GHz stable. I had it up to 4.2GHz on air.

I'm a race sim gamer. I was thinking about getting the next gen Oculus Rift & using it as a gaming rig. It runs Project CARs & Assetto Corsa as good if not better than my current system. I'm thinking about getting a Corsair Hydro Series H100i Extreme for it. I'm sure I could get it running stable @ 4.5GHz.
Here's my Performance Test results of the 2 systems.

Case - NZXT Panzerbox
Motherboard - ASUS P6X58D PREMIUM
CPU - Intel Xeon X5650 6 core 12 with Hyper Threading
CPU Cooler - Noctua NH-U14S
Memory - Corsair DDR3 PC3-12800 2GB x6 12GB
Power Supply - 1050 Watt
Video Card - XFX AMD R9 270X 2GB GDDR5
HDD x1 - WD 2TB Black

Case - LIAN LI Memorial 20th Anniversary PC-777A
Motherboard - ASRock 990FX Extreme9
CPU - AMD FX-8350 Vishera
CPU Cooler - Noctua NH-D14
Memory - G.SKILL Ripjaws X Series PC3-19200 8GB x2 16GB
Power Supply - Corsair TX 750 Watt
Video Card - XFX AMD R9 270X 2GB GDDR5
Video Card - XFX AMD R9 270X 2GB GDDR5
SSD - OCZ Vertex 2 180GB
HDD x2 - WD 3TB Green
HDD x1 - WD 2TB Black

That.Is.Awesome.

I love the idea of thrift shops. They don't exist in my country, unfortunately.

Why did you change out the cpu? Did you just happen to have the xeon lying around?

No wonder it was so cheap - look at that cable management.

I wasn't happy with the i7-920. Read the motherboard unofficially supported the Xeons. I started looking & found the Xeon on eBay for $55.00 with free shipping. It made a major difference.

I plan on upgrading to a better AMD card. With both of my 270x cards in Crossfire it runs surprisingly well. That's when Crossfire is working right.

Yeah the cable management is really bad. I wired the big industrial control cabinets for years & I tend to be a little OCD with cable management. I like the case, but the way the case is made it's nearly impossible to make it look good.

I completely agree with him. It is very time consuming to overclock. The i7-920 was much easier to overclock, but dropping down a die size & adding 2 cores was well worth it.
I don't understand why a lot of people says you can't game with a Xeon.
So if someone has a LGA1366 computer that supports the Xeons & doesn't mind the extra time tweaking it.
It is well worth it. I would recommend getting X5670 or higher. You can find the cheap on eBay & the one I bought even had a 30 day warranty.

Here's the forum I found about running Xeons in this motherboard. They have bios settings listed, but none of them made mine bootable. It took me hours just to get it to boot. I'm sure I still need to tweak it a bit more. It is running very stable at 3.8GHz.
