PC-Gaming Build i7 2700K or i5 3570K

Hi there, I want to build a new Gaming rig but I am not sure if I which CPU I should use, here in Switzerland the the 3570K would be about 240 CHF.- That equals about 260$.- and the 2700K is 300 CHF.- that equals about 320$ i think.
And I would use the Z77 Sabertooth Motherboard does it really matter if I use the Ivy-Bridge or Sandy-Bridge Processor.
Basically I would do more gaming on the PC than other stuff... Which CPU would be more Future-proof is the 60$ worth it to get an i7 ??

Not all of the IVY bridge features will be supported on a Sandybridge CPU. However, you don't really need any hyperthreading for gaming. If you aren't going to do anything crazzy like video rendering, or graphics rendering then a quad core, especially the 3570k will get the job done and then some, but if you feel you are still CPU limited while gaming then go ahead and overclock the 3570k.

Also if you aren't going to be doing any overclocking, and you don't have any money to spare - then you might as well save yourself a few extra bucks and get a non k series processor.

One last thing, I run an i5 2500k overclocked to 4.2GHZ on an ASUS P8Z68 chipset and it runs beautifuly. If your trying to save cash. The 2500k is the way to go, or a i5 2400 if you are against overclocking.

i7= editing/ rendering and enthusiasts

i5= gaming

i3= day to day use.

If you've got the money, and you need the power, then get the i7. If not, and you're just gonna game and other stuff that don't really need much CPU power, an i5 will do the job.

Thanks for the advice though the 2500k is the same price around here I think it is like 2$ cheaper than the 3570k so it doesn't reall matter but I was wondering if the 3570K will be enough for games in the future like battlefield 4 or crysis 3 etc... Because I don't want to upgrade the CPU itself for the next 3 years...( probably just add ram or change the GPU)

Thanks in advance

CPUs in general don't get replaced that often, unless your some rich boy/ girl who wants the best.

Usually, if it's getting pretty old, you can OC a CPU( assuming it's an unlocked one) to get it back on it's feet and kickin'

thanks so basically then I should get the 3570K and overclock it if I need more power?

what cooling unit do you reccommend?

It would be better to get the i5 and spend the extra money on a video card since you're gaming. If you're already getting a premium video card, then you might want to look into a nice sound card. If you don't really have a limit on your budget then go ahead and get the i7 though.

As others have stated, just go with the i5 for a gaming / daily driver type build.  A 3570k should be plenty fast enough to last you for years, and can easily be overclocked for an added boost.

For cooling, if you like massive air HSF, the Phanteks are pretty nice, the PH-TC14PE model specifically.  The NH-D14, and SilverArrow are still top contenders, and I don't think you can make a bad decision out of the three.

If you prefer the closed loop coolers, h80i, or antec 920 should be plenty.  I have a h100 (got for free) on my i7 3770k, and have it OC'd to 4.5ghz with 1.29v, my temps don't exceed 65C on the hottest core while Folding (distributed computing).

Oh, I also have a D14, H80, and they are both sufficient too.  My D14 keeps my 2600k @ 5.0ghz under 75C.

If you can factor the i7 into your budget, I'd say it'll be worth it in the long run.
