So the title basically says it all. I want to know/learn how to diagnose a PC and be good at it as well as troubleshooting. Is there any pc diagnostic software and troubleshooting software I need to get/buy? A good example is that my current comp usually crash under long hours of working/gaming it could be overheating, could be something else, so basically I want to know exactly what and where the problem is. Is there any course that I need to learn? Or I can just learn by myself? Also I want to get into data recovering as well.
Would really appreciate any comments especially Tekkies who work in those fields.
Check out Passmark ... they are the one that made memtest and other industry leading software.. they have a wide range of system diagnostic software and most have a free trial period
Passmark huh. I kinda remember reading something like "don't trust passmark GPU or CPU benchmarks" they like exaggerate score stuff or something. Are the comments true?
To properly understand what is going on in Windows and inside the Windows kernal you need the Sys Internals suite. To get to grips with it properly I recommend the books written by one of its authors - Mark Russinovich.
Another good one with tons of info is called SIV - System Information Viewer It is a test and sensor reading utility CPU-Z but with much, much more information and functionality built into it ..It does take some time to learn ... but it does have "wizards" to get you through the learning period.
It isn't the prettiest GUI but it is a wealth of information that is very useful (saved me time and trouble more than ounce) it was written by a giant brained guy that writes WHQL drivers ... Ray Hinchliffe.
Others I have used there was one called Everest ... and I think it became AIDA32 & then AIDA64 .... I tried to download aida64 extreme 470 free trial but it wasn't a trial so much as crippled to the point of uselessness.
And there is HWINFO is much like CPU-Z and only the newer versions are to be trusted and not too buggy.
Its a large database just like any other. Think averages and you will have the correct approach to other peoples benchmarks. :) Tom's is terrible bias themselves.
CPUCalc is an overclocking-calculator able to overclocking with many Intel and AMD processors. You just need to set your wished clock and it calculates all other settings, for example. It automatically sets the correct CPU-RAM-ratio and Referenceclock:HTT-Ratio.
It´s also able to calculate the new TDP with the overclocked settings.
These are my favorite go to resources for troubleshooting and diagnostics. Between the 3 sources there are a TON of applications that will do various things for you. Do some google searching for the different applications and how they work. Not everything is perfect, but there is something there for almost every situation.
Hope it helps. **P.S. Portable Apps i love because you just throw it on a flash drive and everything runs from there. No need to leave traces behind on the target system. =)
