Ok, i built my pc almost a year ago an everything has been fine until I got Metro:last light. I played the game for about 2 hours perfectly on very high settings. Then for an unknown reason it began to cause my pc to go into complete spas mode, making my screen go black with lines and producing a loud beeping noise in my headphones. Then it wouldn't let me do anything and required a restart.
From looking at the temps on both my cpu and gpu everything is below 60C, which is why i am so confused. all drivers are up to date.
So then i decided to play some DayZ which I have played over 200 hours off absolutely fine, now about 10 mins of game play and boom, a crash.
these crashes require me to restart my pc and it is becoming very annoying, i have scoured forums for solutions but mainly people say its overheating, but in my case it inst. So anyone who has had this problem or knows how to fix it please help!
My pc specs:
Phenon II x4 965 (stock cooler, no overclock)
Amd R7850 1gb (no overclock)
Asus M5a97 Mobo
8gb 1600 corsair vengance ram
550w xfx core edition psu
As I say, this has only begun happening since downloading metro: last light.
Doesn't sound like a driver problem. Do the usual checks - Temps with OCCT, prime 95 or something like that, check the GPU Temp, check all the voltages, run a few memory checks...and if all that isn't helping: Get some free space on the harddrive, make a second partition and install a clean windows and do the checks above and then install a game - do not connect this windows installation to the internet! so leave anti-virus and all the other stuff away.
I have stressed my Gpu with furmark and I also did a stress test with the Cpu but used a different programme. the gpu temps never passed 68C and the Cpu never passed 60C. I just got sleeping dogs and having the exact same problem, black screen after a few mins of gameplay. All the games are going through steam, could that be a problem? How should I go about testing my memory and could it be a power supply issue?
Sorry for all the questions, many people seem to be having a similar problem and none have been able to fix it :(
you get a black screen and the PC freezes or you get a black screen and the PC restarts?
For testing the memory, use Memtest86. It's possible to get it on a USB drive. If it's a PSU issue, you can watch the voltages with a lot of programs (HWInfo64 for example)
I get a black screen and the last second of audio loops, then i am forced to restart as the computer become like a brick, however all the fans are still running and the leds are lit up. i ran my pc on 100% load on both cpu and gpu and no problems, left it go for 2 hours just to be sure.
I have had my pc for over a year and this problem hasn only begun since playing metro last light a week ago, now it is spreading to other games that I previously ran fine.
I havbe tried to run it as administrator to no avail and verify the cache is as useless as ever. Not sure what else there is to do
hmmmmmm i had a similar problem however the AMD display driver would crash for no reason, but after changing the thermal paste the crashes dissappeared, just asking is physx enabled on metro LL?
Have you tryed that other suggestion i gave? Make a new Partition on your harddrive and install a copy of windows, without any connection to the Internet, install a game that you are able to play offline and try it. Then you can copy the steam folder over to the scond partition and start steam and see, if Metro Last Light crashes. If it does, it's a hardware failure. If it doesn't, your original windows copy is ready for the bin
Wouldnt I need to install the graphics drivers and such again? Also how would I go about making a partition and selecting windows to boot to it? Then at the end of it, is it possible to remove it
I have to point you to google for that, beacuse that would get a very lengthy post. A quick overview would be: Shrink the existing partition, make a new one with something about 30 GB, install Windows and the Graphics drivers (nothing else!), install the game (with DirectX, for example in the Metro folder is another folder, containing the DirectX installation), try it. Windows is making another entry in the boot.ini in the MBR - at least if you are using a non-UEFI Windows 7 install. If you are using 8, it's going to get a bit more complicated - but the initial configuration is doing windows by itself. To remove it, you have to go into system settings. Unfortunately i'm using a german Windows, so i can't tell you the english name for it...
