PC/Console/Steam machine... thoughts?

if only it didn't use mobile PC parts it would of been nice. Honestly though they could of gotten away with something a little bigger like the size of a PS4.

if i were to build a console grade PC this is what i'd choose.

  1. A Silverstone 450w SFX PSU,
  2. R9-285 Mini from Sapphire,
  3. i7 4790 with a Noctua L9i CPU Cooler
  4. ROG Maximus Z97 Impact
  5. two 4GB Ram Kit @ 2400mhz
  6. Two 128gb SSDs
  7. a Lian-LI PC Q30

That would of Been Perfect. (maybe add a little ROG paint-job on the Lian-Li.)

but this ehh not so much.

I want something that i can build for $1500ish, fit into something the size of valve's steam machine prototype for $2000ish. Thats what i would buy.

that's quite expensive though..

yeah but i expect this ROG (Steam Machine) to be expensive as well since it has the ROG branding.

also the build would look pretty awesome lol

Good point :)

The demographic that would consider buying this probably has a gaming PC in the house and i believe this idea will be obsolete before release due to the streaming options that are being finalized between OnLive, Steam, and Nvidia.

Typical boxed gaming PC...

Manufacturer: Hey look we put an i7 in it! OH HOLLY TITS! Check out the SSD it has! Our case is tiny and teenagers think it's cool, edgy, and FASTER!!! SO MUCH RAM! And don't forget about our awesomely expensive ad!!! Give us all of your money now?

Consumer with at least half of a brain: Hmmmm this sounds enticing.... tell me, my good sir, which graphics processing unit did you choose to include in this product?

Manufacturer: Shut your damn mouth about that! The GPU is fine and totally pairs nicely with that super bad ass Intel core i7 so stop asking.

Haha... there was a typo in the original video, they removed it and edited it.  Here's the current one.

It's a good idea to try and get money/subscribers out of the general public that doesn't seem to ask too many questions.  Especially if you promise them 4k resolution, i7 and SSD.  Any beginner gamer or people who use brand loyalty will probably pick it up.  I think the gamers who seem to have an infinite amount of money would pick it up for a spare PC to connect to their tv for when they don't feel like gaming on their main rig. Unfortunately since it is ROG, it will be expensive and probably not attainable for the demographic that they are aiming for.  In my opinion it needs to be priced around $700, probably lower, but ROG doesn't even make a keyboard for $700.
