Hello everyone, Im new to the forung and Im looking for help on building a pc.
I know that there are plenty of suggestions on hardware and princes, and thanks to tek syndicate you tube channel there are several videos for pc builds for several price ranges. The thing is that I am currently living in Japan, and prices here are, for some parts, the same as in the US but others such as cases, psu's and ram are incredibly expensive. For example I found and NZXT 210 for about 6,000 yen, that is about 70 US$ (give or take) this is just an example. The psu's are even more difficult to find, in particular seasonic are so rare that when you actually find them they tendo to be 70% more expensive that in the us.
I am on a very strict budget and would like to keep it under 80,000 yen (1,000 US$), the main pourpuse of the pc will be gaming, programming (fortran, c++, for computational fluid dynamics, and meteorolical models), picture and video edditing. I would not buy an ssd because the ammount of data generated from the computer models is too bing and has to be repeated several times, in particular when a mistake has been made, and this would kill an ssd when I am working on a database that uses 10BG of puer text and generates output files that range in the 1GB to 20 GB range ><. To be honest mosf of the programing and simulation will take place at the labs server cluster, but I would like to have the flexibility of working on my pc at home from time to time.
for cpu I was thinking either a 3570k or a 3770k. And videocard something in the range of either a gtx 660 or an hd 7870.
Thanks in advance and sorry if I made some grammar and or spelling mistakes (english is not my mother language :S)
Wow now this is our first PC build from Japan, Nice!
I can get away with making list for germany, dutchland, austrailia, and england becuase they use at least some of the same language or characters, I don't know about a japanese though, I can try though I think they still display the numbers as a numeric value instead of alphabetic characters.
Could you link a (couple) website that ships locally for buying computer parts, it does not have to be in English?
BlizAceOverdriv any chance you can link us to a website of a local japanese retailer of pc parts? That way we can build you a system based on your prices over there and avoid any costly international shipping.
The most famos webpage for internet shopping here is kakaku.com this page compiles its info from different etailers in japan and groops them by price class etc.
Amazon.co.jp also works fine but tends to have higher prices
The part where im most confused is finding a propper balane between performance and price
Thanks for the help. My japanese is not bad but reading the kanji is a pain ( ̄▽ ̄;) plus my limited knowledge on computer parts
Thats all i could come up with, i tried looking through power supplies but good lord there was no specs on any of them. A quality 500-550 watt will do fine, even with the power supply it should be under your 80,000 price mark by quite a bit. This is definitely a monster gaming system, for programming or video editing i do not have the faintest idea lol
BTW, talking about the psu's, there are many choices but Im afraid that some might burn down my very small appartment >< the following cought my attention:

Also, since Im on a strict budget is it worth downscaling from a gtx 670 to an HD 7870 in order to squise in the 3770?
The KRPW looks good, opt for that one . You definitely can get a HD7870, Here are some benchmarks of what the 7870 can do in various games. http://www.anandtech.com/bench/Product/548
Just to make sure, iam only looking at your build through gaming eyes, i have no clue or programing and video editing. Have you looked at the HD7950 prices as well? Even the GTX 660Ti?
The main pourpose of the rig is gaming, but I would like to use if for work as well (tricky balance I think) since I need to be able to do some post processing, including video edditing ><.
I would deffinitly like to try to squise in the 3770k because with the 16 GB of patriot memory the software that Im using will be able to to use the 4 cores and 8 threads to the max. Then Im not sure if AMD or Nvidia is better for video edditing, and post processing. For example I know that for Autodesk works better with AMD gaming cards because amd drivers allow even gaming cards to have some of the functionality of professional videocards. Another thing that worries me is that the adobe suit works better in CUDA.
Any Ideas? as for gaming I would be happy to to get a video card that handles most games at 1080 with high settings but Im willing to compromise with the most demanding games like metro 2033 and withcher 2.
All the cards listed will definitely do witcher 2 and metro fairly well, the video editing though is what i do not know. I recomend you wait a until tomorow and see if someone who knows more about editing then us posted some information on what to choose. If no one posted, tomorow just post again in here to bump your thread a bit too see if it can get some attention.
this PSU is a reputable brand, antec or at least I think it is, it has earthwatts name, which is a antec brand name

but if john C checked out the other power supply then either should be good
If you are not using adobe products to render edit, then stick wit AMD cards they do better, if you can manage a 7950 then the render programs will really benifit from the 384 bit memory bus,
if you have to choose between a 7950 and a 3770K, get the 3770K, the 7870 is still a really good card
Here is a link to the PSU i picked http://www.kuroutoshikou.com/modules/display/?iid=1547
I picked it mainly for its 12v single rail and its modular. Take a look and see if its alright, it is always good to have a second set of eyes, definitely do not want the fella to burn down his apartment.
well its specs are great, I just don't know what brand it is, so I have no idea of the quality, say like AC power filtering, it may not have any at all or it may just be fine all, mine is a good brand but I don't know how to access its specs
