Pc build advice

The Gaming 5 has a pretty beefy power delivery system for the CPU.  Great for overclocking.  the G55-SLI can do overclocking as well, and if you're only doing mild overclocking it can probably handle it just fine, but if you want to push the CPU the Gaming 5 is a better option.

I tried to do some minor color matching since the S340 has a window.  Only thing that doesn't totally match is the RAM- has some red flair on it.

Regarding the power supply: 550w version is the same price as the 650w version, so ofc I went higher.

^^ I tried for two hours to build better and failed ... could only go over to improve ... nice build

  • If I was building this for myself I would go with the MSI gaming 5 mobo and a Noctua d14 cooler and if I could scrape enough coin I would get a GTX 970 on this build and call it good for 5 years or so.

But then you're adding about $200 worth of upgrades.  Remove overclocking and the SSD and maybe fit a GTX 970 in there, but otherwise I don't know where one would fit that into the budget.

Also, 970s are out of stock everywhere.  Good luck finding one to buy :P.

that is why I  said "if it was a build for me" For me I will spend more for a very stable and competent system (things I personally value) I do not want upgrade and or compatibility problems in the the future.

My grandmother told me ... if you want to be satisfied ... buy the better and you won't be unsatisfied and regretting your decision  in the future.  ... makes good sense then and now.

if you build a system strictly on budget requirements (sacrificing quality for the sake of saving a couple bucks in the short run ... you will definitely have regrets when the build is complete and the deficiencies are apparent..

I feel the same way. My budget is not too strict. I could come up with $100 to get some better parts if needed.

I do plan on picking up a few things during black friday and cyber monday such as a air/water cooler and possibly a high-end graphics card.

I want to thank you guys for putting in the time to show me some builds and your opinions. I also forgot to mention that I don't need any storage devices. I have a 1TB hard drive and a 128 gig SSD.

I would recommend against water cooling (to loud unless you change the fans which just makes it way too expensive) a Noctua D14 will cool almost as well much cheaper

Tell me your input on this. http://pcpartpicker.com/p/wt2kbv

I'm going to wait to get some parts cheaper I'd like to snag the processor hopefully I can pick it up on sale soon.  I'll most likely double the ram within the next month depending on how 8GB performs

that looks like a very capable gamer with all perfs for just under $1100

Edit  ... with the exception of the z87 MSI mobo

you can get the  Z97 for $1 more

MSI Z97-GAMING 5 ATX LGA1150 Motherboard

ReEDIT .. after reading about them they look alot alike .. toss a coin ... the only real advantage to the Z97 is no bios update needed for the Haswell refresh CPUs

I'll upgrade to the Z97 board for sure.
