Hey all, while using my software (poker solver) I am getting odd results with temperature cycling of around 15-18c every second IF i have PBO enabled in bios. I think my software and Amd’s PBO are having some odd interaction. My question is if this is safe to run 24/7? I’ve read that temp cycling can cause premature damage/stress fracture to the cpu. I’m aware that ryzen tends to temp cycle at IDLE, but this is during load.
I’d be running this pretty much 24/7, and I’d like my 3990x to last ~5 years.
AMD’s boosting algorithm is astronomically complex taking into account the thousands of sensors across the cpu , the load requirements , the electrical capability of the motherboard the thermal limits of each core , the specific capabilities of each core and who knows what else … The question is , in your case , does PBO gives tangible benefits in performance or is it marginally better than stock ? As for the lifespan of the cpu … I wouldn’t worry for at least 10 years … you may loose a couple of Mhz …
