PB Vegas 2/P5N-E SLI board problem

Hi all,

Got a big problem with said board. This PC has been running fine for the past 6 or so years. According to my cousin, he was playing a game when his screen randomly went black. He turned it off and back on, where the board refused to POST - in fact the GPU fan won't even spin up (we've tried two different GPUs, an MSI R7 250 and a PNY GT220).

When I came to look at it, the PSU smelt rather toasty, so I brought it home. I've swapped the PSU (no name to XFX 550W), tried a different CPU (Core2Quad 2.4 to Pentium Dual Core 1.8), tried different RAM (multiple different sticks to Samsung 1GB), and even reseated the SLI selector - still nothing. All parts I have swapped out are known working.

My PC speaker is currently broken (I need to resolder it). Is there anything else I can do to test it before I go and dig out the soldering iron?

Thanks for your help.

most likely a dead mobo then unfortunatly.

I would say, time for a system upgrade.

Since the computer is not posting, did you try to reset the CMOS by removing the motherboard battery for a few minutes to see if it will at least post again.

what i always do to test if a system still works is remove the ram and if the system beeps upon startup then its usually not dead.
