Passthrough decision

I’m building a pc specifically for passthrough, but due to GPU prices things have changed a little bit. Tomorrow i will be buying all parts except for GPU, and i’ll use my old gtx 760. So now i’ll have the following two choices:

  1. Buy an R7 240 and passthrough my gtx 760 until i buy the new GPU. I would need to use looking glass since i only have 1 KVM.
  2. Don’t buy the R7 240, just dual boot until i get a new monitor and GPU.

In the end i will buy the R7 240 anyway, the only question is when. I’ve never done passthrough before, much less looking glass, so if you guys think it will be unlikely for me to pull it off, i’ll hold off on buying the R7 240 for now and wait until i get the new monitor/GPU.

So, what do you think? Mobo is a msi x370 sli plus (AGESA 1.0.0.6b), CPU is a ryzen 1800x.

Your monitor probably has another input, if the only reason you’d be getting another monitor is to game, maybe you can maybe save some money and switch inputs until you get everything up and running.

LookingGlass, once you get it running, can basically help you not have to switch inputs, except for UAC prompts

Nah, regardless of passthrough i’ll be getting a new monitor.

And yeah, my current monitor has another input. Weird port though, dvi-i i think. Thanks man!
