2160p (4k) gaming at 1080p will be fine as for ever 1 pixel of 1080 it scales directly to 4 on a 4k screen. So that is fine.
For your writing I would suggest a large 4k monitor as a small one will really make the text tiny to the point of eye strain. I use an iPad screen on my PC and I can read a thing in it so I have a second monitor for it. But on a 4k all long as it is a big one, in the region of 40inch, then the text will be readable fine.
There are new AMD CPUs coming the end of the year. The 8350 will work fine, it is not new or amazing by any stretch, perfectly fi e for gaming still and general PC work but not super CPU heavy tasks. So that is up to you.
Will those new CPUs be for AM3+ sockets? Because those in mATX are dirt-cheap, literally, really in the region of an FM2+ (my current mobo socket) motherboard price range. I'll probably wait for the new lineup, it'll be cheaper than Intel, so more affordable.
I've just looked at the prices of large 4K monitors and may I just conclude by saying that my 1080p and my 720p TV will just have to do (they are damn expensive) and I can work on my 1080p just fine. Only for the future, if I ever choose to put the PC in the living room and play in 4K on it, that's when I'd really NEED the upgrade. My monitor and TV are reasonably sized (1080p for the monitor and 1336×768 for the TV), I'll just have to find a connector to get both running at the same time (both have HDMI, but I've got only 1 HDMI port in my GPU). That would also work, although I'm not sure if when gaming the picture won't spread onto 2 monitors, that would be a bummer. I'll sort that out, I can always unplug one monitor.
No not AM3+, new socket AM4 so new boards and new CPUs. mATX AM3+ should be avoided if you are thinking of anything in the FX8xxx series it will not be able to run it safely, or at least I would not trust it. Verdict is out on price for now it will be a few months before we know more.
Yeah 4K is expensive for now. But as for you 2 HDMI issue you can get a DVI to HDMI adapter cheap and that will work fine, though there will be no audio over the converted HDMI as DVI does not carry sound like HDMI does.
That's great news! I'll keep a lookout for AM4 sockets, but I guess the price should be probably similar to AM3+, perhaps twice as expensive, but I can live with that.
I am really retarded. I'm already running a DVI to HDMI converter in my primary monitor! I did that because I had my Xbox360 connected to it! Damn, now I can abandon the whole DVI to HDMI business and run them both port-to-port! Also, my GF will be getting this card after (if I ever) upgrade to play her Sims 4, and she only has VGA, so she'll get a VGA to DVI connector! Damn, you really made my night right now (5 to midnight where I am). Thanks!
