Pascal is Basically a Beefed Up Maxwell

The layout of the chip shows a lot of similarity with 1 or 2 difference, thus, begs the question...How is it doing Async Compute if not architecture native?

AdoreTV answered this very question at 8:03 in the video.

We all know driver Async will never be as good as hardware level Async. The question is do you really need hardware level Async at all if you have high clock speeds and high efficiency architecture which is what GTX Pascal is? We'll know the answer for sure once Polaris comes out with its architecture level Async aka 4th Generation GCN Architecture.

PS.: Maxwell owners should be furious that Nvidia is holding their Async Drivers for Pascal exclusively, no?

All speculations, as far as i´m aware off?
Everthing is still under NDA so yeah.

Yup...

Why does that matter? 390 is just slightly improved 290, but it is way better performance wise. And that is what should matter.

Don't get me wrong, i'd love to see people praising Nvidia for overclocking their old architecture and rereleasing it, while spitting on AMD for doing the same thing, but why does that matter?

I will say the same i used to say in defense of 300 series. The performance is the important thing. And in this case we still don't know anything about performance...

Pascal has been in development for a lot longer than Maxwell, Maxwell was a byproduct of the pascal development

My point is if it's the same, then how is it doing Async and Maxwell not? It's obviously through drivers. But where does that leave the Maxwell owners? That's another generation of GPU gimp through drivers. It's a speculation that's worth thinking about.

Nvidia have stated that Pascal doesn't do hardware Async. This gen as well will fall behind in DX12, just like the 900...
PS:

Quite simple. Nvidia doesnt care. Buy pascal if you want more...

Its important to remember that Polaris (the top card) only runs at 5500GFLOPs while the Pascal are 9000GFLOP cards.

I think allot of people are going to find out the hard way once they buy a '480x' card and discover it performs the same as the 390x, gonna be upsetting for many. The benefit is the Polaris cards should overclock massively so thats a plus (390x last time I tried barely tolerated any overclock).

Highly doubtful 490x will keep the same performance as last gen when it's a 14nm FinFet. And with a true Async architecture, unlike Nvidia's knock-off solution in Pascal, it will more likely compete in between 1070 and 1080.
Plus, It's pretty much common knowledge that AMD shifted their focus towards mainstream market first. They won't be competing in the High-End range against Nvidia (1080/Ti). And with the clear naming scheme everyone knows that the mid range will be R9 _90(x) series.

Yeah the card I was thinking about was 480x with 5500gflop performance. The 490x will likely be somewhere around 8, will be interested in seeing the pricing. Still I will go the NVIDIA option for now for the Linux advantage.

Uh... Bad comparison. Pascal and maxwell are different, we're talking about how similar they are. 290 and 390 are the exact same core, so obviously they're similar.

Also it's hard to make a comparison to amd because theyt're working towards generational improvements to GCN, meanwhile Nvidia come out with something new each time under a new name.

In the video he points out an older nvidia slide that doesn't even show a pascal, just volta

I'm sorry misread that, damn dyslexia.

GP104 is GM204 with some extra shaders with some extra spice and a node shrink.
Considering how all the extra perf is pretty much from the node shrink alone I really hope AMD didn't make a mistake going for gloflo's 14nm.

And this statement is based on what?
Like i said all speculations.

Excuse me, excuse me, WHO THE HELL CARES???

We're all jittering on about FLOP ratio and clock speeds and bullshit like that but now I really do wonder: Outside of science and whatever.... WHO. CARES.

Its not important to us. Its not important, really, at all. Yes lets be pissed about things, yay! The way I see it is AMD sets standards and actually DOES things and NV is just a marketing company who thinks stickers are cool.

At this point I don't care anymore. Buy the card that is in your budget, and if you don't have one don't whinge on about company fucking politics when you don't work there.

I think y'all need to stop getting you knickers in a twist over this. Fine. For the upper eschelons of performance, the 1080 is going to reign as the new king. AMD's Polaris probably won't stack up to it. Who gives a damn? That's not what Polaris is supposed to target in the first place. Everyone is running about, screaming and waving their hands in the air, being part of the AMD Polaris Polaris Polaris circlejerk when they have no idea what they're even talking about. If you're one of those people, stop it. Because it just makes you look silly. If you want to get a 1080, grab one and be done with it.
