Hi all,
I was throwing around some ideas within my office regarding a dedicated computer to undertake modelling, simulations, drafting, etc. I was considering a budget of under AUD $1000. We run AutoCAD, NavisWorks, GIS Mapping Software, patented software that run a large number of calculations at a time, and the usual Microsoft Office applications. Basically, I was thinking of getting a computer that is swift at processing calculations and is able to do some serious multi tasking (will try to set up two monitors at least). The idea is that while we can input data on our respective laptops, the hard number crunching will be done on this computer which will be linked up to an uninterruptible power supply and will be left overnight.
Thanks.
umm... your going to want a FirePro or quadro GPU, and probably an i7. your not really going to get much with that budget, what you really need is a dual-xeon system, or a cluster.
Commisar is right, in order to get the right modern hardware to what you'll be doing you'll have to expand your budget to atleast 2K
At least 2K. Even that is pushing it; the top-of-the-line Quadro/Tesla cards are more than that by themselves.

I don't know much about workstation pc but this is what I came up with. You could also replace the Quadro 2000 for a 600 to save money. Sorry its in usd but you can atleast see the parts and usd to aud is almost the same.
I think this might be the closest thing your gonna get in australia. there were no lga 2011 sockets even listed, and hdds were only seagate and WD (not that anyone else makes good hdds anyways).
