I have a virus/malware/whatever on my windows pc, It prevents me from booting into safe mode, downloading any antivirus/antimalware I can think of (hijackthis, malware bytes, avg, norton, etc), any idea how to fix this? it close down any browser I use if I type in certain keywords (virus, and one other I can't remember). System restore won't open, hijackthis and task manager both close the instant they are opened. Which is a massive pain in the ass since I have a computing project due tomorrow and I'm having to do everything on my linux laptop.
Well, if malwarebytes won't open up, you're in trouble. The best advice I got is to fire up a live-bootable Linux distro and run Clam AV and have it scan your drive. Hopefully it will pick up said malware, but, truth be told, I'm not sure how thorough it is considering malware on Linux isn't a huge problem. Probably the only reason Clam AV exists is to clean up FUBAR Windows installations.
Malwarebytes has chameleon which is designed for those viruses that target and shut it down

Remove the drive and scan it from another pc preferably a linux machine or make a windows install just to do the scan make sure its offline so update malwarebytes before hand and grab all theyre accesorries chameleon only works if the drive boots unless they recently made a live cd i dont know of. Personally after the scan and removal i would back up your files and do a fresh install most times when it gets that infected it never runs well again. word of advice make a disk image of your os drive and use another drive for storage if you did this you would be back up and running in 1-2 hours never rely on the os drive for storage.
Think, i would try going to programs and manually destroying any programs that didnt belong just to see if it wouldnt allow you to get your malaware scanner up and running. Of course it takes some understanding of what programs you have installed and what they do. But when in doubt Google it. Another place to look is in your startup. You will also need to scrub your browsers. Avast once you can get back in.
Good one! Yes, i second that. Treat your os(windows) like its going to wasted. Store your data on another drive.
I keep a ubuntu boot disk on hand and just scan my drive with it http://howtoubuntu.org/how-to-install-and-update-avast-antivirus-in-ubuntu and all back door viruses be gone
My friend also experiencing that kind of matter and he is really having difficulties about it and some of my friend who are working in some mobile phone services at http://www.hetihuolto.fi/ suggest re formatting and buy some effective anti virus so that it won't happen again.
