I am used to using NAND ssd’s and not Optane drives so is there a way to “secure erase” the Optane drive? I have my primary OS on it (POP OS) and want a fresh copy of it (maybe another distro but I digress). Note, I don’t have a Windows machine to use Intels software to format it. Will secure erase even work in Parted Magic?
What do you try to achieve? Optane drives don’t require a trim to maintain optimal performance. Removing the partition will remove access.
There is an explicit “secure erase” command for nvme drives (NAND or Optane). You can perform this on Linux using the nvme-cli command. Not sure about POP OS, but you can probably just install it using your package manager.
Deleting the existing partitions will “trim” the occupied space, so in this sense Parted Magic will do the trick.
