hi, is overclocking amd radeon hd 6450 a good idea *note the card is passively cooled*
temps with out overlocking
idle
45 degrees (min)
on load
75 degrees (max)

Probably shouldn't overclock. If you do, try to put a fan directly over the cooler. That card is already running hot enough as it is.
Don't OC is on that passive cooler.
I have an OC'd (to the max) msi HD6450.
thx i managed to move my card to a higher level near my fan and he temp have dropped 5 degrees … is my card still too hot
Just don't overclock a passive cooled low end card.
If you don't like your temperatures add a fan to it. Get a cheap case fan, a 60mm would be fine, you can get them anywhere, with a jagged knife cut away the fan enclosure
If you go for a 3 pin fan, you can plug it on the motherboard and control it from the bios or using a fan utility program. If you don't have fan headers on the motherboard , go for a molex fan, and plug it to the PSU. I have made this modding to old cards that were starting to get warm....
You must attach the fan to the graphics card, I use temperate resistant adhesive, just check what you can find on the store. Remember to put the fan on the right direction, sucking air from the bottom and pushing it towards the GPU heatsink.
thx forsaken2011 very much but is there another way of lowering the temps other than underclocking the GPU, i can't use a fan becauseit have a small form factor case :)
One more question is my card at 70 degrees considered hot on load?
Celsius yes, F° no.
Underclocking, adding fans, you can put it apart (remove heatsink) and with Isopropyl alcohol clean it, then apply new fresh thermal paste. Try having a clean case always, and not put it into a piece of furniture that won't let it have a nice airflow.
When I ran furmark with 1 6870 it hit 99c no probs never had issuses lol. I also have a 6450 with a passive cooler and I wouldn't recomend overclocking it. Bad things happen... but if you subconsiously want to break it so you can justify an upgrade, then I highly recomend overclocking this card lol.
ok thx, Royalblunts what the max temp on ur 6450 is getting.
im scared that 70 degrees is going to over heat my card
Im running Unigine Heaven 4.0 on it right now, its paired with an AMD A4 2.7ghz. It can only manage to run it in DX11 on low settings with everything disabled at 720p around 15-20fps. Its not getting over 45c. and its been running about 10 min. So it does look like something could be wrong with your card or maybe airflow.
On the other hand... I used to have a single 6870 that ran at 90+ during a stress test and when I crossfired it the temps went down to around 65c each and never over, so mine might just be cooler because its paired with another "gpu".
70 is warm, but it's normal warm. Generally, you'll want to avoid going >80c. It's ok to bump up by 20MHz or so, but nothing serious, as you don't have a lot of thermal headroom. Also, I'm not sure how much of a performance boost you're going to get with such an entry level card. I'd say it's hardly worth the effort.
GPU clock min:400 MHZ Current 650 MHZ max: 725 MHZ
Momory Clock min 667 mhz current 667 mhz max 900 mhz
should i change any of these
