Overclocking On the M5A97 r2.0 "LE" version

I've got an fx 6300 @ stock everything that's being cooled by a hyper tx3 evo. Can i overclock the cpu on this motherboard? i know that it isn't really designed for that because of the lack of heatsinks on the mosfets and a 4pin cpu power header instead of 8; however the cpu does turbo upto 4.0 anyways so can i just set it to that permanently? or maybe slightly higher?

You can probably get something to fit over the MOSFETs to cool them, if that is an issue. Look on Amazon, apparently 4 pin can give 200watts but that is just what someone else on another form said, others said 75 but I think they are confusing that with what pcie connector gives.

The real issue here will probably be how Good are your MOSFETs. Probably want to monitor how hot they get.

You may do better by waiting to get an 8370e as the TDP has been dropped. so you may get safer performance out of it than cranking up the OC on that board, but the short answer to your question is, yes you can, but dont go too nuts.

Much appreciated M8. I'll dig around for some heatsinks. i have seen them floating around on a few websites. The default TDP is 95 watts as it is so i'm pretty sure that the power delivery should be sufficient.

New components where i live have a tendency to be exorbitantly priced. The 750ti was what equates to $250 USD at launch. I will try to get some good numbers out of the existing cpu and report back here if everything's solid. Thanks!

I had a fx6300 I had no problem oc'ing to 4.0ghz on stock/auto voltage. My cpu temps went up about 2-3c and the rest of my temps pretty much stayed the same. Try it out and run conebench r15 and geekbench while monitoring your temps. You should be ok.
