OverClocking on the AM3 platform

Okay today I'm going to talk about oveclocking on AM3 CPUs, these will work on any AM3 CPU, not just Phenom.  We won't be running ram faster than it is designed to go for stability, but that doesn't mean that we won't be changing memory settings.  I will be setting the goal for 4Ghz or around that number, if you have a C3 revision or higher CPU this is very realistic.  As for cooling, if you don't have a solution that isn't sufficient enough I highly recommend a cooler master hyper 212+, it gets the job done and its dirt cheap

For checking CPU, RAM and motherboard Info CPU-Z is a great tool.  for benchmarking for stability Intel Burn Test works great, yes even on amd CPUs (Note: this will benchmark your CPU, northbridge, and Ram to they're limits, make sure you have adequate cooling)

Make sure your temps do not get above 70C, 60C would be pushing it.

 

 

for 1333 modules follow these steps

  • Set CPU FSB to 250
  • Set CPU multiplier to 16
  • Set CPU NB multiplier 10
  • Set HT multiplier to 8 or 9
  • Set Ram Multiplier to 5.33 it may be listed as 1066
  • Up CPU voltage to 1.45
  • Up CPU NB voltage to 1.3
  • Adjust Ram timings to spec
  • Add +0.05v to ram spec voltage to add memory stability

 

 

for 1600 ram modules follow these steps

  • Set CPU FSB to 240
  • Set CPU multiplier to 17
  • Set CPU NB multiplier 11
  • Set HT multiplier to  9
  • Set Ram Multiplier to 6.667 it may be listed as 1333
  • Up CPU voltage to 1.45
  • Up CPU NB voltage to 1.3
  • Adjust Ram timings to spec
  • Add +0.05v to ram spec voltage to add memory stability

 

 

for 1866 ram modules follow these steps

  • Set CPU FSB to 234
  • Set CPU multiplier to 17.5
  • Set CPU NB multiplier 11
  • Set HT multiplier to  9
  • Set Ram Multiplier to 8 it may be listed as 1600
  • Up CPU voltage to 1.45
  • Up CPU NB voltage to 1.3
  • Adjust Ram timings to spec
  • Add +0.05v to ram spec voltage to add memory stability

 

 

for 2000 ram modules follow these steps

  • Set CPU FSB to 250
  • Set CPU multiplier to 17
  • Set CPU NB multiplier 10
  • Set HT multiplier to 8 or 9
  • Set Ram Multiplier to 8 it may be listed as 1600
  • Up CPU voltage to 1.45
  • Up CPU NB voltage to 1.3
  • Adjust Ram timings to spec
  • Add +0.05v to ram spec voltage to add memory stability

 

 

for 2133 ram modules follow these steps

  • Set CPU FSB to 232
  • Set CPU multiplier to 17.5
  • Set CPU NB multiplier 11
  • Set HT multiplier to  9
  • Set Ram Multiplier to 9.33 it may be listed as 1866
  • Up CPU voltage to 1.45
  • Up CPU NB voltage to 1.3
  • Adjust Ram timings to spec
  • Add +0.05v to ram spec voltage to add memory stability
