Overclocking noob amd fx6300

I have a amd fx-6300 running at stock speeds with a coolermaster hyper 212 evo cooler and hoping i can get it up to 4.2ghz or at least 4 ghz. here are my specs:

ASUS M5A99X EVO R 2.0

8GBS KINGSTON HYPERX CL9 RAM

R9 270X ASUS DIRECT CUII TOP

RADEON HD 7750 XFX CORE EDITION

CORSAIR CX500 

the only problem is that i did not use the 'pea' method of applying my thermal paste to the cpu while i was installing the hyper 212 and had run out of it and was a pain in the ass to install but manage to get it on will i be able to and also the 7750 is just for the second monitor just for playing videos because i had no dvi cables and all i had was a spare vga cable.

Let me rewrite that because i posted just as i woke up. the only reason is that i did not use the 'pea' method when i was installing the heatsink i installed it incorrectly and only had three tries of applying it correctly, one last thing will the cx500 handle a overclocked cpu and running 270x and hd 7750. I can take out the 7750 because it is just for my second monitor and had no dvi cables only vga.
