Overclocking my DDR3 RAM

Hello all! With the release of the next generation of gaming, I'm looking to boost my system's performance. I get decent frames in all of the latest releases at the high/ultra mark, but I just want to even things out and make sure I'm doing all I can to maximize the "future-proofing" of my hardware.

Here's a quick Speccy of my system:

and here's one of my RAM specifically

I just want to know the safest way to OC my RAM as I don't have any cooling solution for it.

Also, I know I should upgrade my cheap motherboard, and that's one of the first things on my list. This build has served me well since 2011, but I think it's almost time to upgrade a bit.

Wait, wut?

You're using 3 of your memory slots? Not good... Either fill 2 or 4, never 3 dude...

Once you figure that out... I would start with googling your brand and model of ram to see what others have gotten in overclocking it, might be some numbers you can try to start.

I see, I see. The third was something from a friend who happened to have bought the same kind of RAM as I did and he had a stick left over from a project...So, yeah. I'll happily fill in the fourth slot though.

Learnin' something new every day.

Why would you overclock RAM? What's the point?

I wouldn't worry about temps on RAM.  I've never heard of people overheating their ram because of OC'ing, the heat spreaders are there mostly for looks and to make it harder for the other companies to see whats going on.  Since you're using a Phenom chip it would probably be best to OC the ram with a North Bridge OC, that boosts Ram frequency and also seriously boosts performance on phenom chips if memory serves.
