Overclocking a Mobile CPU

Does anyone know if it is possible? Like overclocking a Tegra 3 or something I know it is possible to Underclock a mobile CPU when you have root so this raised the question can you overclock and if so how hard can you overclock? Does anyone have any experiments done by anyone relating to this?

(This post is mainly for because I can purposes not for actual day to day use)

Mobile i7 CPUs are 100% overclockable... as for the Tegra 3, I have no idea. Unless by "mobile" you're referring to "handheld" devices, and not laptop hardware. In that case... probably not, and if you did, it likely would burn out your battery a whole lot.

phones are usually overclockable, can't say about any specific chip, there are plenty of programs on the android app store

when i've done it i didn't notice much difference in power use or heat, your results may vary

Yeah ARM CPUs in phones and tablets are overclockable. I have my CPU and GPU in the Note II overclocked by 200mhz and 133mhz respectively. Usually you need a custom kernel and either overclocking scripts or a software tool to do it.

The impact on the battery for me is actually reversed, I get longer battery life and less heat because it undervolts the chips. So all round a bonus.

I did not do the work, I am not a software guy, check up on XDA for your device. I am running the Devil Kernel 2.

If your Tegra 3 is a Nexus 7 find and get M-kernel (and use trickstermod to edit kernel values) it allows you to OC your CPU to 1.7GHz and the GPU clock to whatever you want, even gives voltage controls
