Overclocking a Laptop (HP Pavilion dv6-6b12eo)

Hi all!

I find it quite annoying that my laptop have a decent GPU, for what i got it for, but the proccessor is slow as crap (Okay maybe not that slow, but a bit slow), so when i am gaming, my games don't always run optimally. Guild Wars 2 for example, runs alright, but the graphics is almost at the lowest, and there is still a small amount of chuppyness.. So today i decided i would see if i could get more out of it, so i began thinking of what i could do, and the only thing i could come up with, was overclocking the CPU. Now, i have never overclocked anything, so i don't even know if it is possible to overclock a laptop, or this specific laptop, which is a HP Pavilion dv6-6b12eo, and uses an AMD A4-3310MX proccessor, so i would love some help and advise. If any of you could give a guide or something i would be grateful :) Any other tips to making the games run better would be highly appretiated!

Thank you in advance!

Let me tell you straight away that it you are not going to get the performance you want. It is very difficult to overclock a locked cpu, and at most you will get 200mhz improvement. Not to mention it will devour your laptop battery, and cause your whole system to overheat and potentially fail. It is possible howver to overclock the intergratedf gpu, this should be easier to do using a piece of software called msi afterburner. It might help, but you might as well forget about the cpu.

this is a bad idea

You should never overclock a laptop unless it is designed with that in mind. Also you should NEVER overclock an HP, they get hot enough as it is

I see. I am not really sure about the specs of my laptop as it isn't my primary computer, but as far as i know, the GPU is dedicated. I am not 100% sure, but i haven't found anywhere saying either. It is a budget laptop so i may be wrong. Do you think overclocking it would improve the performance? I am willing to sacrifice battery life, as i 70% of the time use it plugged in. If you can guide me trough it i would really appretiate it :) I will be reinstalling the PC first though, as Windows 8 screwed up the shutdown.. :/

overclocking a laptop is a horrible idea. mine already gets up to 85c while playing minecraft, I don't need it any hotter. laptops have cooling inferior to almost any desktop, even with the stock heatsink.

according to http://bizsupport1.austin.hp.com/bizsupport/TechSupport/Document.jsp?objectID=c03069106&lang=en&cc=us&taskId=101&prodSeriesId=5145688&prodTypeId=321957

your laptop has 6gb of ram. you could upgrade to 8 gb and you might see a little improvement there. That seems to really be one of your best options.
