Overclocking a 3570k

I have a 3570k installed in my new pc. It survived a 12Hour Prime95 test at averages of 60-63c.

I'm using the Artic Freezer i30 cooler for this, but as soon as I go over 4.2GHz the system becomes unstable. I have the voltage to auto on my MSI z77a-g45 Motherboard, which keeps the voltages at 1.18v on everything I set, should I override this and take it up to 1.2v or over? I thought the 3570k was more overclockable than 4.2GHz, but I could be wrong.

I have also bought two sticks of Kingston HyperX ram which is clocked at 1866MHz @ 1.65v, which I've got running at 1866MHz @ 1.5v fine and stable, but I thought 3570k's could go higher than what I'm getting.

Any help is welcome and greatly appeciated, should I send my volt's up, and if so what is the limit to reach on a 3570k, also what are safe temps to be averaging on a prime95 test, and how long should I run the tests for.

Thanks, Dickins.

you should be able to overclock the 3570k over 4.2 or atleast at 4.2

try adjusting the volatge just a little bit and see if that helps

also if it works and you are at 4.2 then run prime 95 small FFT for about 1 day

Hope it helped!

I can do 4.2 on stock, after 18 hours the peak temp was 78 degrees c. I agree with Waffletime.

what I did on mine is put my voltage to 1.2 and set the multiplier at 40. I increased the multiplier by incrimants of 1 and ran prime95 for like 5 mins in between to see if it was stable to go to 100% load. I then bumped the voltage up a little again to see if it would then run at 100% load. I did this until I got to temps I didn't like then I went back down a little bit and ran prime for 6 hours. ( you should usually run for 12-24.) If you bsod or freeze, bump your voltage up a little more. Hope this helps :)
