so im building a 10Tb server and i dont know what os i want to go with, all the machines that will use the server are windows 7 based, so would it be best to go with that and just share the folders over the network?
Please help i need to know as the finished build is due in a mounth.
If you're building a server, get a server OS, at the bare minimum, a Windows Server from at least 2003.
im not good with server os and i would prefer to stick to what i can setup and service, but is it possable to use standered windows 7?
Sure, it's possible, but you would get much more functionality from a Linux-based server-oriented distro, or, I digress, a Windows Server release.
linux is not an option, i tryed once and it well it died in about 30 sec. what i think i want to do is creat 4 folders 3 for backup (one for each machien) and one for genral storage. Would win 7 be fine for that (its the ultmant edtion)
Yes, it would work, but you would be better with a NAS oriented OS.
FreeNAS is your best bet.
What do you plan on using for the server? I do know my way around the windows server software
backup and file storage 10 tb of it
Server 2003 would be a viable option, one thing you can do is get an evaluation copy of server 2008. Thats what I use on my network.
you made my night with that comment
use linux, a server variant....
what was that brennan i couldn't hear you
