So I am getting the parts tomarrow for my first ever pc build and I thought a guy I knew had an extra copy of windows, so I was kinda banking on that. I just found out he doesnt have it anymore and I have absolutly no money because I spent it all on the rest of the computer. What should I do about this?????? Im considering installing Ubuntu (obviously just cuz its free) but I build this computer for gaming and very few decent games are supported on Linux. Im kinda freaking out right now.
though ubuntu isn't nearly as well optimised as windows, most games will run through wine
so would there be a significant performance drop running the games through wine? (as compared to windows)
You can download a 90day Windows 8 evaluation for free......this give you some time to save up $ or download another copy.
i can't say, never tried much
but here's a temperary solution http://windows.microsoft.com/en-us/windows-8/preview-iso it'll most likely force you to pay after it's offically released to the public
I dont know if that will help because from what I understand that is just an upgrade. Im starting from a fresh hard drive. so i would need a bootable version.
Im talking about the Windows 8 Enterprise 90-day evaluation, not the 8.1 preview. you just need a microsoft account, like a hotmail/outlook account and you are good to go.
There are other ways as well, though I will not be officially discussing them or condoning their use. If you know what I mean... ;)
Install Manjaro Linux on it, it has Steam and comes with the proprietary graphics drivers preinstalled, and access to all the open source games in their latest version in either the repos or AUR. The Manjaro kernel is Tomoyo enabled so you can install that self-learning lightweight MAC system to run commercial or closed source software safely on your machine. If hardware vitualization is not locked on your system, you can still install Windows later in QEMU or Xen, and safely play windows games without real performance penalty. If you want a full install of Windows later, or your system doesn't support hardware virtualization, it will destroy your linux install, so you'll have to reinstall that, and you'll lose the safety of your system when running Windows.
Just pirate the thing, really. Works absolutely the same as a genuine copy, installation process is the same, cracking process is opening one program and clicking one button.
I concurr if and when you have the moeny then you can dish out on the luxury of an OS
+1
If you're in college, university, or other education establishment; you can get a legit copy for free.
There is always the unspoken, swashbuckling method.
Not always so don't bank on this idea, you may only get a discount, which is only 10% off.
You can download an iso of Windows 7 and use it for 120 by rearming it. So in the meantime you can save up for it.
ubuntu isn't nearly as well optimised as windows
Every modern Linux distro is better optimized than any modern version of Windows, and they even have better performance in opengl games.
