Optimizing this Build while keeping it under 750€

Hello folks,

I'll probably buy the parts this weekend and wanted your valuable insight on the parts i chose (with some help). Target budget shall not be over 750€ and the purpose of this rig is gonna be gaming (Skyrim, Bioshock Infinite, Crysis... stuff like that). The goal is to be able to play those games on high/max settings with a decent fps.

What do you think? Any Suggestions? How would you improve it? Would you change the whole structure with an ATX motherboard and bigger case? Would you get a more effecient PSU? All comments welcomed!

I'd give up the SSD to get a better motherboard.Look at the Asus 97 Evo R2.0 motherboard.Unfortunately, there aren't any mATX motherboards in the 97 chipset.By the way,how much more expensive is the FX 8320?I'd get that if the price difference is not too big.

I know why you would want a SSD but it is a luxury at this budget. Get a normal 1TB HDD like the WD Blue.Should serve you better.
The higher end AMD cards are kind of overpriced at the moment due to cryptocurrency mining. The nvidia 760 or 770 might be a better deal if you can find them cheaper than the 280X.
PSU is not the best around. But it should serve you well.

Sorry,was pressed for time earlier.

Optimized everything for a slightly better build.Haven't touched the GPU. I'll show you some comparisons and it is your call on them.

Look at this website to see the 760vs280x and the 770vs280x. If you ware happy with what you see, then by all means, get the 280X

This build looks very solid, although try a GTX as Lebozo says, coupling a AMD CPU with a Invida GPU will give you optimum performance out of the GPU. I'l have to search where I had seen this to back up my belief.

Where'd you hear that, mate? Do post a link.I'm really curious on this.

Thanks for the feedback!

I was going towards the 280x because the card was recommended here:

https://teksyndicate.com/forum/build-pc/help-me-bring-cost-under-1000%E2%82%AC/169901

You can play any of those games on max settings with either build. I would actually advocate grabbing a high-end AMD GPU, if you can afford one. Something like the 280x, particularly if you want to mod Skyrim.

But nothing is set in stone...

No worries, i appreciate the support!

I looked at your site and could not find the 280x.

Regarding the SSD it is the only thing i'm not very willing to compromise about because it's well worth the price to me. I'm not gonna store tons and tons on data on it, i'm just gonna install a few games, play them and uninstall them when i'm done with them. Plus, i already have other hard drives to mount on it.

The 280X is a rebadged 7970.

You'll be micromanaging quite a bit on a 120Gb SSD.The HyperX is good,but it's your call,mate.

I'm unable to remember where I had read/watched this and just saying it off the top of my head isn't very good solid information. if I remember i will post it.

I would agree with that generally. But the price is ridiculous these days due to the miners. Overpriced like hell to the point where high end nvidia cards card up looking attractive. And that is something that almost never happens.

The GTX 770 i found is a tidy bit pricier, would you say it's worth the money?

Here is the updated build with your Motherboard & Case recommendation

Look at the benchmarks on Anandtech.Use the 7970vs770 comparison.Choose the card that you like from that comparison. Both are great cards.

One more thing, you could look at this PSU.You might want to save the few Euros,i don't know.

http://de.pcpartpicker.com/part/xfx-power-supply-p1550sxxb9

The reason i put that out here is that 550W is generally more than enough for any GPU.If you were to OC the GPU,then getting a PSU with a higher headroom is better.

you're not alone, I also read it, I think it was anandtech article buet I can't find it either...

Thanks a lot for your time & input.

One more question: when buying all this equipment, do i also have to buy the correpsonding cables (e.g SATA cables etc.)?

Motherboards usually come with sata cables. That motherboard comes with two. All power cables will come with your power supply.

Thanks

Only in America. In Europe the Nvidias are still the most expensive ones. We don't get ripped off as much as you do apparently. And since his links are german, I'm guessing he doesn't have the same problem you have.

In America you'd be better off buying Nvidia, in Europe you wouldn't. So don't pretend it's the same everywhere and pay a bit of attention when saying such things.

The 280x and 770 seem to be trading blows so then it comes down to preference or price. In price the 280x does it a bit better than the 770 but it depends on which one you're better off with in terms of custom cooler. Also not sure how long you'll still be able to get out of the 2GB vram of the 770 and the 4GB version is quite a bit more expensive.

edit: the skyrim modding part is most likely about textures and then the 280x 3GB will be better than the 770 2GB

So, if i understand you correctly, in my position you would buy the 280x?

Personally, yes. But I don't like Nvidia.

To be fair, I only see one big difference between the 770 and the 280x and it's the amount of vram. 2gig is enough, now. I'm still managing with 1 gig, for now. If you mod Skyrim heavily with texture packs, you can easily fill that 2gig and then 3gig is a better choice. For most games though I don't think it matters all that much, but 3gig is probably a bit more futureproof than 2gig (Titanfalls "insane" texture setting claims it requires 3GB vram for example, how much of that will be happening in games to come is hard to say but it's not all that farfetched).

The difference in fps isn't big enough from the benchmarks I've seen to go with one or the other because of fps alone. So you'd be fine with either.

Going for the 770 with 4GB would be silly imo as the 280x will be a lot cheaper and you might even find a faster AMD card for the same or less as the 770 with 4GB. Unless you find one quite cheap.

I recommend the MSI GTX 760 not as powerfull as the 770 but on a budget itll ive you some room for upgrades on the other components. I have a similar build to the one you were suggesting but with a 760 and its served me really well. Im recommending the MSI 760 because its almost silent (and for me) i was able to achieve a stable +1000 mhz on memory clock increasing my bandwidth substantially  to 256 gb/s. I can run skyrim at a smooth 60fps mostly (dips to 40 in entrance and around cities.) bioshock infinite and all new games run highest setting 1080p perfectly (if not highest then almost highest.) Hope this helped.
