Can optical drives be incompatible? Sorry if it sounds like a dumb question but can they? I ask because I'm taking out an optical drive from an old PC a cousin of mine had to save a little more money. For the operating system do any of you know a website were I can get Windows 10 for a cheap price for my first build?
PS- sorry for creating a new thread for one subject
Yes, Older computers from 6-7 years ago tended to use IDE Drive connectors. Newer PC's Use SATA
Not to mention the different types of drives. The typical drives from 10 years ago were just CD R/W "unable to read modern DVDs" drives limited to 700-800MB CD R/W disks. The high end newer IDE drives support DVD R/W as well as CD R/W. Your drive should tell on the front whether or not it is an CD or DVD RW Drive.
By the way Windows 10 home is free and you can download and install a setup from here. All you need is a USB drive.

Thanks man
all newer computers only accept sata and Esata connections so if you have a new build this will not work.
Your Welcome, anytime.
So I have a computer that im using windows vista on it (Old I know) will this download work on it?
mmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmm you might have to back it up first and put the installer on a flash drive. Also you will need to press F12 at boot. ESC if you have an HP Click on you USB drive and boot into the installer.
:T I see. Okay so all I have to do on my first build is just download this on a USB then boot up windows from the BIOS? Also won't it ask me for a product key or something?
no its windows 10. It will not ask for a key. its unlike anything they have ever released. Although you need to watch some tutorials on Win 10 in order to protect your privacy. "Its not actually free... They want to sell your personal preferences as statistics. Its just another marketing scheme." So please watch some videos on disabling the spyware that is windows 10.
Thanks for the help man! Also how did you get the download?
