Optane in a Mac Pro Trash Can

Does anyone have any thoughts on if an Optane SSD would work as a boot drive in the Trash Can Mac Pro?

As regular bootdrive in short, Yes. You need an Apple to m.2 adapter. Will it feel snappy AF? Yes

As Optane with HDD, No.

… for Intel Optane 1600X m.2 SSDs

For most Intel Optane SSDs you need an “Apple to u.2” adapter, right? (put in quotes because I don’t know what such a thing is or if it even exists - not a Mac guy)

“apple m.2 adapter” in Ebay or Amazon in your Part of the world and you see what i mean. Apple has its own connector.

I wanted to point out that most Intel Optane SSDs don’t have a m.2 connector, but rather a U.2 connector (also SFF-8639).

So, to get an Optane SSD with U.2 connector to work in a Mac, the correct adapter is required.

My quick search on Amazon.com did not reveal an “Apple to U.2” adapter, but “Apple to m.2” adapters are plentiful.

but the Optane 1600X m.2 SSD has indeed m.2
