Opinions on Titanfall? [From the Forum]

i think it's going to put call of duty in the dirt once and for all. but i wouldn't be surprised if this game does good and then later becomes truly bad. Coming from Quote on Quote Former Members of Infinity Ward (Respawn Entertainment) they made call of duty as retarded as it gets to begin with. when i played Modern Warfare 2 and Modern Warfare 3 on Consoles, Game Patches didn't even bother to come out.  I can't be the only one that remembers the One-Man-Army, Grenade Launcher Combo and the Tactical Nuke that ended the game, or the Infinite Emergency Air Drop glitch that didn't get patched until three months later in MW2 and The Deathstreaks to REWARD people that sucked at the Game in both MW2 and MW3. or who can forget the Bloody Baby Monitor (Heartbeat Sensor)

its going to do well but i think its going to get stupid in the long run.

I tried it this weekend, I got really bored with it after about 20 minutes, I thought it really looked like a ported console game (smart pistol anyone?). I did 5 minutes in a titan, that was boring, running around is less boring, but the minion NPCs feel like primary targets, and that makes it kinda sad, its as if the NPC's are an attempt to make up for pretty poor gameplay. What I do like are the movement mechanics (double jumping and running on walls) and the graphics of the ordnance/projectile hits, although I think the weapons are completely OP (there again, massive rate of fire to compensate for poor aiming capabilities on consoles, smart pistols with auto-aiming on multiple targets, magnetic grenades, etc... all typical console functions, that have no place in a PC game in my opinion), and there again, the NPC functions of the Titans give the game a ridiculous aspect, instead of making it difficult to strategize and shoot your way out of a cul de sack, you just press V and your Titan drops on your position and starts shooting the environment up, and you can get away easily... speaking of a console optimized gameplay function... I was disappointed, I had expected more with the huge hype that was mounted about this game. I'm probably not going to play it unless there are some massive gameplay changes for the final version.

I guess I should just prioritise reacquiring Minecraft 0.o

I gave it a go. It was neat knowing they made this on the Source engine. I unfortunately just couldn't get into it. It kept reminding me of Call of Duty. After doing a little research it was from a couple people that helped make Call of Duty. I'm not a fan of Call of Duty so that would explain my feelings lol

I didn't even bother going for a beta key. I rarely play bf4 now, and I think that is  a decent game. From what I have seen, this might go the Medal of Honor route. Guess we will find out if it goes on sale for 50% on release.

Gunplay is solid

Titans spawn too fast and kill too quickly

snipers are OP

Graphics are meh

(Because I like to test) I normally go for betas where I can and while I did like the concept, they killed it for me when they announced it was PvP/Multi only. It 'looks' like that MechWarrior game at D&B, but even that gets old after an hour 'cause there's no story. Other than that, it looks pretty and definitely resembles what many people 'seem' to play (CoD, HaloMP, etc), but perhaps that's its biggest flaw (but not entirely its fault).

While I don't play them, I too feel that it's beyond time for the CoD style clones to die. I'm pretty sure they've covered all the Real battles by now and there's nothing all that different between them. I mean the biggest thing they hyped about Ghosts was the damned Dog being playable/usable. Really?

Just another overhyped game that fails to earn my interest.

I'm surprised you didn't enter to get a beta key.

Worried it would go what direction?

Yeah the OP kinda confirmed what I though this game would be like. I imagine once the novelty of the mechs and free running wear off it's just another COD style shooter. EVOLVE however, is giving me a semi. That game looks much more interesting, but I guess they're trying to make Titanfall THE game to move the XBOX ONE.

I didn't play Battlefield 4 enough to bother with Titan Fall lol.

I played it and thought it was fun. I skip all Call of Duty games now and haven't played much battlefield 3 or 4. I read this was made by some people from the COD team when the first article about Titanfall came out and thought "who cares". A couple people on a huge team won't make the game what it is. The graphics are okay and the levels are a decent size. I think getting the titan after a minute or two is perfect, why call it titanfall if the titan is a crappy perk...they are the entire reason for the game. It feels new, fresh, and competitive. I will probably buy it.

After six hours of playtime it really is just CoD with mechs.  Titan combat is boring and repetitive.  Burn cards are kinda interesting but are earned to easily and give too big of a reward at times.  Like constant active sonar or an explosive round sniper that has a four foot blast radius.  The base smart pistol is crazy throw on the targeting module and it almost always beats the carbine at close to medium range.  Guns really are just laser beams.  You can easily get cross map carbine kills with no recoil compensation.   I like the idea that Titans are just earned over time but some actions reduce said time by to much.  ie killing a pilot reduces the time by thirty seconds (easy for a dominating team to get more momentum).  Spawns in hardpoint were sometimes just horrible, spawning me feet from where I died or making easy spawn traps for one team.  I understand the reason for having grunts but they seem to be just a novelty and random side chatter more than an actual aspect of the game.  Wallruning seemed at times clunky are had only a very limited situational use.  I was interested in the whole molding SP and MP together but the only merging I see is constant chatter from a "command" structure what after awhile gets plain out annoying (I don't need a robot telling me every 15 seconds when I can call in a titan).

In all for me it got way to boring too fast.  I see a spot for it in a "mindless" shooter spot.

Honestly I really like the game.

I have been wanting a very casual shooter to play for a while (I refuse to play CoD) and this is exactly what I needed. I absolutely love the parkour features, and all of the titan mechanics, and the game NEVER drops frames even with 6 artillery titans all having a battle royale in the center of the map.

98% of why people don't like this game is because it is too easy. You can easily get your titan 3 minutes into a match by farming ridiculously easy A.I, and there is a pistol which comes with an aimbot pre-installed. This game was designed so that no matter what: A. You are killing people. and B. You are killing more people. I don't need all of my games to be 100% go hard competitive. If I'm having a bad gaming day (my aim is off or whatever it is) this would be a great game to hop onto to relieve some stress without the constant pressure to be amazing at the game.

As of right now 7/10, Give all of the weapons a moderate recoil increase, make the Titan take longer to achieve, and make the A.I a bit more challenging, then I would say 9.5/10

While I do greatly enjoy the game, this doesn't seem like a game for you, Logan. It is very easy and very casual. I just hope they add in some form of a "competitive" game mode with altered mechanics to make the game a lot more difficult.

I think I'm going to skip out on this one for now. Not a huge fan of FPS to begin with but a few are OK. I haven't played the beta so I cannot give an honest opinion about the game. There seems to be a general consensus on TitanFall so for me, that's reason enough to wait for it to drop in price.

I enjoyed it so far. Not saying its the best game ever made, but it will keep me busy for a while. I don't understand how everyone can expect the best game ever from a brand new game, and a beta release at that. It just sounds like everyone is burnt on FPS'. My only complaint is hearing no campaign included, always enjoy a good story with a new game.

i think the OP pretty much hit it on the head, and i really don't think i'll pick this up for 60 usd.

I want to preface this by saying that before playing the beta, I was not at all excited for Titanfall. But now that I've tried it, I honestly can't wait.

I love it.

It's nonstop action almost all the time. I'm hearing everyone complain about the NPCs that fill the battlefield. "They're not even a challenge" etc.. They aren't supposed to be. They're there for 2 things:  1. To provide atmosphere. 2. To add to the gameplay. For example, in the Attrition gamemode, they add to your teams overall score. Aside from that they also give you experience and reduce the wait for your Titan. And if you get careless, they CAN kill you.

Movement is spectacular. As a Pilot I was double-jumping, wall-running/jumping, and rodeoing titans like it was nobodies business. And it. Felt. Great. Combined with the Stim ability that increases your movement speed and health regeneration for a few seconds I was able to zigzag past a Titans fire, double-jump onto a building wall, wallrun, and then jump off to rodeo said Titan and take it out single-handedly. The satisfaction was immense.

As a Titan you aren't quite as free, but still have great mobility for a walking hunk of metal. You can sprint as well as dash in whichever direction you choose (the amount of dashes are limited by which Titan chassis you have selected, of which there is only one in beta at the moment). This can make for quick-paced battles, as well as speedy getaways if you find yourself in trouble.

Gunplay is pretty good. As a Pilot you have the standard stuff. Grenades, pistols, rifles, shotguns, snipers, sub-machine guns, and melee (jump-kick). The addition of the smart pistol is negligible in my opinion. With scopes and other add-ons to customize your gun, you have a decent range of weaponry to fit your playstyle. Running and gunning is especially fun with the mobility of the Pilot.

As a Titan, you are just that. A Titan. You got rockets, a cannon, a machine gun, and a hell of a punch. You also have a Vortex Shield, and an Electric Smokescreen> The Vortex Shield can be used to catch enemy bullets and rockets Matrix style mid-air and send them back. The Electric Smokescreen, aside from being a smokescreen, after deploying for about a second, creates a field of electricity that damages anything inside. It's a good countermeasure if an enemy is rodeoing your Titan. Now I want to talk a bit more about the Titans survivability. You have an energy shield that can be depleted with relative ease, and armor (which is essentially health). The shield can regenerate, but damage to your armor is permanent. Once your armor is completely depleted, Your Titan enters a state called "doomed". At this point your health bar is replaced with a yellow and black striped bar that depletes over time, and can also be depleted outright by enemy fire. You have the option to either eject, or keep fighting and die with your Titan. If you melee a doomed enemy, you can rip them out of their Titan, and toss them to their death. These mechanics combined with the mobility of the Titans makes for some intense and satisfying battles.

Burn cards add some variety to the action. To the best of my knowledge, they only last one life. They can give powered up weapons, respawn you where you died, increase movement speed, reduce time needed to wait for your Titan, or increase the amount of points/exp you get from certain enemies, among other things.

And that is what I think of Titanfall. I love it, and I can't wait to play more of it.
