Opinion on FX 8370 CPU

Haha totally understand you on that one. The Pentium 4 was the worst piece of shit ever.

lol i have worked on so many of the p4 with xp on them all they need is a high amount of ram and there fast a hell lol

well your ASrock 990FX extreme 3 with only 4+1 powerphase and analog vrm´s, is not realy the best mobo for driving a FX8 core on. Allot of well known overheating and voltage throttle issues with these boards. so keep that in mind.

Eh, If you compare the Athlon 64 to the Pentium 4 it's kinda like Intel Core i Series vs AMD FX, except the other way around :)

I ran my FX 8350 on a 970 Extreme3. Not a good board but stability was not an issue.

lol i have seen allot of those boards fail to be honnest with an FX 8 core on that.

Those boards are simply not designed for a powerhungry FX8 core´s, same with Msi 970 G45/G46 boards.

And im not even joking ☺

so your saying my board is at risk of failing if i upgrade to a 8 core

Yes.

well then im going to have to go a step up to the extreme 9 from asrock if i plan to upgrade my cpu damn i wish i didnt have to worry about risk i read it made to run the 8cores well i guess im wrong

No. Don't worry about it. It has a HIGHER than usual failure rate, but that does not mean it WILL fail. If you're going to spend the money on AMD CPU + Motherboard honestly just go with an Intel platform!

if you say no to worry then i will go get the 8core if the motherboard fails then it fails i hope if it does fail it wont take the cpu with or the gpu and ram lol well ram is ok i need to upgrade from 8 to 16 anyways lol

Nah, it won't take anything else out. The VRM (part of the motherboard that supplies power to the CPU) might short or pop but that would not damage any other part of the computer.

Oh wow man...

If it shorts then the power supply will shut off.

Yeah, it's as simple as the fact that Intel is better than sex and AMD is total crap... I know, I read all about it... just looking for any other contributions you've made on the forum lol, hang on... still looking...

The fanboyism in this thread is strong....

Eh, check the thread about the Comcast modem. My response there is fairly logical, helpful, and based on real world experience as the owner of an ISP and IT services company.

Here, i thought bing and decide was a troll. Do people use bing? i wont even let it on my pc.

Part time serious computer expert, part time troll.

I lied, I wasn't really looking, but thanks for the info.

If a "VRM pops" (a VRM is actually a number of parts, not one single part), it may actually do a number of things, including, but not exclusively:

- cause an induction surge that takes out the CPU

- vent a cap that takes out RAM or the GPU

- melt a MOS-FET, which can cause damage to the mobo to the extent of shorting bus leads, causing the CPU, RAM and GPU to come in contact with 12V power and die

- etc...

The Intel vs AMD thing is just a fanatic tale of personal experience, I don't care about that, there is variance in the universe and all that, but please be careful about other misinformation. An FX8370 is quite a power hungry chip, if someone would use it on a mobo that isn't certified for the FX8370 by the mobo manufacturer, all kinds of bad things might happen. What if the VRM doesn't "pop", but instead, because the mobo isn't made for a chip with so much TDP, the mobo warps and shorts out against the mobo tray, which sparks just enough to cause a house fire? What if the PSU is not working properly and the fuse doesn't work?
