Okay so I want to install lxde and a log in manager, a setup with no extra packages apart from what is needed so very minimal on resources
Any guides or ideas l3nets didn't seem to work :(

What about doing a minimal network install and building in the packages you want after.
This is out of date but the principal is the same - is this what you are after?

Yup, start with a minimal install iso, that has the GUI installer, and LXDE is in the repos.
Might I suggest Enlightenment or MATE for a minimal system though, it's nicer than LXDE. E18 is in the Factory repos.
