Finally got around to putting games on my laptop, it has an nvidia 555m. I've had bumble bee and primus working for a long time but never bothered to use the dedicated card before. Serious sam 3 bfe is too much for my igp so I have to use the 555m. Thing is I don't know which driver to use, anyone with more experience able to point me in the right direction?
The nVidia nouveau driver is not very good, well, it is good in terms of code quality, but it doesn't have access to proprietary nVidia information required to also provide good performance. The nVidia Windows driver, or proprietary driver, offers pretty good graphics performance, but it's a coding nightmare like most closed source software. If you have a hardened system, don't use it, because proprietary drivers are so full of memory leaks and overflows and loops and other bugs, that your MAC will disable monitoring for those if you use proprietary drivers, or they simply will not work (AMD or nVidia alike). So you have to choose, do you want a more secure system, or do you want faster gaming performance.
Gamers typically don't have that choice however.
nice necro.
Woops didn't notice. It was in a relevant thread section, didn't think twice.
nah its ok, i'm sure people will take interest in this topic.
Never really understood the "threads must die when dead" mentality. I mean if it's still relevant, which it is, it shouldn't matter how long ago it was last active IMO.
Maybe before the advent of thread subscriptions/notifications it could be argued that the OP/main subjects are long gone, but now not so much.
