Open-Xchange , Google office suite alternative

Hey,

A few days ago I found this really interesting open-source project, it is called Open Xchange (or OX abbreviated). It is basically an open-source alternative to the Google office suite (what is the proper name again?) that you can host yourself. They also provide a paid option to let them host your stuff, but that is not that interesting for most of us tinkerers, I assume.

What do you think of this? Could you share your opinions or experiences?

Oh before I forget, here is a link: http://www.open-xchange.com/homeĀ  , for those of us who do not want to search for it.

I'm going to try and test this over the holidays, looks interesting, its definitely more convenient than LibreOffice since its cloud based.

Exactly. I will have a closer look at this too, it seems really convenient. Be sure to share experiences and things you notice!

I would also like to know what Zoltan thinks about this :)

Unfortunately, I can't say what I really think about it for reasons, but what I can do, is comment on the open source software as such, and in that respect, I really like the performance and the GUI. What I don't like, is that many key technologies are still lacking (like full end-to-end encryption that is really secure, and that will never really come because .... and that I can't comment on....).

This however is a project that really should be forked before it's too late, but I don't think it will happen (and with that, those that can read between the lines, know everything there is to know about it)... but if someone would do it, and keep it entirely community-based, that would be great.
