Okay so I've been Trying to configure 2 rather old computers from around 2007 to work as a nas storage box for my home. However, with either one of them, I get a max transfer speed of 11mb both incoming and out going from these two computers. Can anyone tell me as to why this is happening? I doubt its my 3 year old desktop's fault nor my brand new laptop. And I doubt it can be my asus router that costed me over 200$
When I use homegroup sharing through windows on any of my computers, I'll get a max speed of up to 64mb.
The specs of the better pc out of the two old ones has a 2 core Intel pentium D processor 935
2 GB ddr2 ram
1) 250gb hdd 7200rpm Formatted to UFS
1) 320gb hdd 5400rpm Also Formatted to UFS
No gpu because I run the servers headless and just a usb drive that I'm running nas4free off of.
Could it be the hardware being too outdated? I'm not sure if thats it because my other old computer that has even worse specs than this computer transfers at the same exact speeds. Could it be the fault of the software? I've tried everything from googling problems like this to exploring nas4free and freenas to see any additional options or wrong configurations.
Any help would be appreciated because I'm not all that educated in networking.
ALSO: Whenever I'm tranfering something, if I pause and start it up again, The transfer rate will sky rocket from 11mb to 64mb but only for a few seconds. During this short period, It flies through the transfer of my music collection. Then it will go back down to slow poke speeds. What the heck?
