So the Two launch event was in VR via their app on the Play Store. Here are some of the highlights:

  • SnapDragon 810 eight core processor
  • 3300mAh battery
  • 4GB RAM
  • Ships with Oxygen OS 2.0
  • 1080p 5.5" screen with newer panel
  • 16GB and 64GB models
  • 13MP with Optical Image Stabilization, 1.35 sensor size, six lenses, dual LED flash, and laser focus (which is really fast)
  • 5MP front-facing camera
  • Fingerprint sensor
  • USB-C cable that is reversible on both ends
  • Dual SIM
  • Higher contrast, so the screen can get brighter and dimmer than the One
  • Rebindable hardware buttons
  • Dedicated hardware silent mode switcher (quickly switch between notifications off, priority only, or all notifications)
  • Aluminum and magnesium alloy frame with stainless steel accents, and ships with Sandstone black back plate
  • Easier to remove back plates for Style Swapping
  • No NFC
  • No wireless charging
  • No expandable storage
  • No quick charge (USB-C charges fast enough)
  • Ships August 11th for US/Canada/EU/India/China, and Southeast Asia later this year (correct me if I am wrong about this)

And Marques Brownlee just uploaded his impressions video of it

i enjoyed the experience, their forums are a mess right now and my reservation number keeps going up since spammers are ruining the invite system lol oh well i just hope i dont have to wait too long to get one. happy with the specs but no mention of charging speed, im hearing 0-100 takes like 3 hours or something but that might be wrong, dont know why there was no wireless charging either i quite like that feature.

im also having a hard time justifying this phone when i know theres a nexus phone coming later this year with a possible snapdragon 820 in it

The launch for me was cancer, but that has more to do with my internet than the launch itself. It was extremely nifty though.

Like the EightiethRaptor, I can't justify the OnePlus Two since I have the OPO and it will be kicking for a while.

I thought I might mention that the phone is not Aluminum framed but rather Magnesium framed, which makes it lighter and stiffer just by a little bit.

My favorite parts are the dual SIM, hardware switch of notifications (nifty, but almost pointless), camera that may be really good. I'm sad that the screen is the same size, 5.5 is a nice size, but 5 inches would have been better for me.

Also, USB C. Woop woop.

Yep. I actually just got a One last week and have been really loving it so far. Not yet regretting not waiting for the Two and probably won't upgrade until maybe the Three comes out :P

Probably worth getting it if one was looking to upgrade this year though

It is aluminum and magnesium with stainless steel accents. Fixed the post, though

Haha, that's a shame you didn't wait. So close to getting that 810 and whatever improvements have been done.

Dual sim.. Sounds like my next phone.

No NFC... Maybe not. Wtf is wrong with them why is there no NFC?

Edit. To add. They put in a fingerprint reader (this isn't a security measure btw! Please make that clear) but remove NFC.. Considering how useful it is and to add that it's going to be even more popular with all the pay stuff. Never settle.. Doesnt quite fit. I'm sad :(

NFC just isn't supported much. I think OP is gambling on NFC taking at least another year to take off. Browsing around the stores, unless you go to a mall or something, an NFC reader just isn't going to be easy to find, for god sake even Costco doesn't have NFC readers.

I don't really have an issue with it, it isn't all that useful yet and needs a lot of time to mature. There are other things that NFC can do... but those are also extremely niche and need time to develop themselves. But I completely agree with the fingerprint sensor, NFC > fingerprint junk. If they replaced the buttons at the bottom of the screen with just the fingerprint thing, it's going to be really dumb, some people like to have the main control buttons off the screen (probably just me) and replacing it with something that provides a false sense of security is silly. I subscribe to the password world even if the passwords are simple.

The thing is at least here in the UK NFC is everywhere. Not just payments, it can be used to setup and pair devices, to share media and info, to get info, to automate tasks, to automate profiles, and as part of authentication with things like a yubikey.

All that lost and instead a fingerprint sensor... Not to mention with apple pay NFC will become much bigger quicker.

It's supposed to be a flagship killer and doesn't even have somthing as versatile as NFC thata been on every flagship phone for 4 or 5 years

ugh invites.

Nano Sim eww, no physical qwerty keyboard, non-removable battery, no SD cards. This phone is junk.

Oh... I hadn't thought about the UK. Whoops, what I said applies to the US. We have almost nothing for NFC.

It's interesting because NFC and quick charge are effectively free to them as there using Qualcomm, so there absense is quite odd.

Nether the less its a good phone for the price at least on apecs. I wonder if it will support raw photos

Hopefully it last as long as it takes to charge

i hear the oneplus one didnt have quick charge simply because they couldnt get some deal with qualcoimm to use it, i have a feeling its along the same lines for this phone lol

Qualcomm basically give away quick charge if you use their SoC. If they weren't using quallcomm then i might agree but they are. The leading theory apparently is that theres no quickcharge becuase of there weird USB 2.0 + USB-C connector hybrid doesnt work with it yet.

That still doesnt explain the lack of NFC considering that's also basically given away with the SoC. NFC on SIM might be an options though im not sure how it works and its apparently a bit unstable.

You don't really need Quick Charge if you use the charger that they give you. It outputs at 2 amps iirc... which is a lot. My charge time with it is about 2 hours and it can last me two days, or one, depending on usage. Not sure what the issue is with having a 3.3 hour charge time, if I recall correctly people sleep at least 6 hours every day, don't be an idiot and charge it then and don't go play Battlefield 4 on it if you plan on needing it for a majority of a day.

Why is there so much negativity about a product that hasn't even been released yet... like the product release said, they are a young company they need time to grow and make changes, they are willing to take risks and make compromises. I'm willing to support a company that is trying to grow and make itself better, I don't expect them to be perfect right after they were born. After all they've already made improvements in the OP2 that the OPO didn't have, the next generation should have even more improvements as long as people continue to support and provide feedback.

i would rather have 9v 2a charge instead of 5v 2a which is what quick charge 2.0 would have given us but they apparently didnt pay the licensing fee's for quick charge 2.0 and didnt add it to the oneplus two which grinds my gears since it has the technology already inside it to do it. i will give them hate for saying "hey its future proof" and not including features that should have been in a supposed future proof phone lol if they didnt hype it up so much then i wouldve been happier with the results but they over marketed themselves.

Umm, okay, if you think so...

Although it is kind of a bummer that NFC was removed, I have yet to use it on my One, so I don't really feel too strongly about it.

Lack of quick charge is again a slight disappointment, but still getting about two days of battery with casual use on three hours of charge isn't that bad.

The only really gripe I have is that the sides are metal, which makes the phone look more like most high end phones whereas the One's soft touch sides made it a bit more distinct looking.

But as far as improvements go, I quite like the OIS and laser focus on the camera, the octo-core processor, the 1GB more RAM than the One, the rebindable hardware buttons are nice, a higher contrast screen is an improvement, USB-C could be handy, and the silent mode slider looks pretty neat.
