One (sorta) Piece at a Time- First Build (Part 2)

Hello there!

It's time for another update to this, my first ever PC build! This month I had my birthday so I took advantage of the situation to gather cash together for the motherboard, which in turn allowed me to get three parts this month rather than one or two. Thanks to Amazon Prime, the Motherboard, PSU and CPU cooler all turned up the day after I ordered them. However befgore ordering I decided to do a compatibility check, just to make sure and sure enough, there was a problem. I had been going to order an H115i but discovered during my checks that my case doesn't support a 280mm rad. I came very near to spending over £100 on the wrong item so let that be a lesson, kids: double check before you buy! In any case I am now the proud owner of an Asus Maximus VIII Ranger, an EVGA Supernova 650 GS and a Corsair H100i v2.

The other day I was also thinking through whether I had forgotten any parts that I would need during the build, sure enough I had totally forgotten about thermal paste and a monitor cable, so I ordered a Display Port cable and Arctic thermal paste which should be arriving shortly!

All in all I'm getting pretty excited to finally build this thing, I only have three parts left to buy but I still have to make a choice on which GTX 1080 to buy, right now I'm leaning toward the Asus Strix due to it's pretty damn good factory OC and the ability to plug in two fan headers and have them controlled by the GPU.

Any input on the GPU choice would be welcome!

See you in the next update!

Honestly as far as GTX 1080's are concerned, just go with the one that will visually match your hardware the best. In this case, I'd agree with your decision to go with the Asus model based purely on the aesthetic appeal.

Also, you may want to consider keeping all of this in one thread to make it easier for people to follow, and maybe include some pics of the stuff you're getting in. Makes for a more interesting and engaging read ;-). Looking forward to seeing the build come together!

Do you really require a GTX 1080? What monitor resolution are you using?
From what I have read the 1070 kicks ass for much less coin.
Sure... having the best of the best would be best, but for a first build I think you should save some money and spend it elsewhere.

The 980TI just had a gargantuan drop.... I would snag one of those TBH.
