Oled tv or no?

Ive been looking to get a tv for the room 40-60". i've been leaning on 4k. I saw a LG OLED 55 or 60" 4k tv at bestbuy and fell in love. The only problem is its like $3k lol. Now for that quality id pay if i was drunk and wanted to be broke for the next couple weeks but man its a sexy tv. Is there any affordable OLED tvs out yet?

Im tempted to just get a regular 4k tv probably 55" for a grand or so but if OLED tvs are around the corner as far as affordability im tempted to just wait.

Anyone know or recommend a tv for now or should i just wait?

My dad got a 65" Samsung 4k non-OLED for like $1500 before Christmas right around the release of OLED

I wouldn't expect the new thing to drop in price unless the next new awesome thing you'll definitely want in a TV is already rolled out...

If you're not directly comparing OLED to LED side by side you'll never miss it... get a 60" LED and enjoy it for 2 grand less IMO or wait till you have to settle for JUST an OLED for $1k

EDIT: I would definitely get the biggest 4k you can afford tho... every 5" makes a pretty big difference... a 40" is WAY small compared to a 60" I can tell a pretty big difference from my 55" to my 60"... to the point I never watch anything I give a shit about in the room with the 55" and they're basically the same TV

What model samsung tv did your dad get?

I couldn't tell you off-hand... he's having his house renovated ATM so it's at my sister's house in it's original box not soaking in all the dust ground off the wall mud... but it's 65", 4k, LED, and Samsung... I can say that... and it was on sale at Best Buy for $1500 during Christmas...

My point was you can find deals on nice TVs that aren't the brand new thing... and you can't on the newest thing... (from a reputable brand anyways)

So my suggestion would be to "settle" for a 60" 4k LED and shoot for ~$1200 instead of paying ginormous premiums for OLED, even though it IS nice... you literally can't notice going from a friend's house to yours... maybe if you have a LED and OLED in different adjacent rooms :P

OLED does look brighter, pops more, but it's not worth double at all

something like that would do in a pinch, no?

OLED is definitely the way to go. It's never a bad thing to have an extra tv laying around though and the price of tvs depreciate substantially year by year. Best to wait until you can get one for around 2k or less. Also since the tech is still being innovated upon, you will see a substantially longer lifespan from LED. From what I read the life of the oleds aren't very good

Kinda torn between these
First one i actually saw in bestbuy, though its 30hz in full res...
Samsung UN55JU6700 Curved 55-Inch 4K Ultra HD Smart LED TV (2015 Model) $999.99

VIZIO M55-C2 55-Inch 4K Ultra HD Smart LED TV (2015 Model) $889.99

Samsung UN50JS7000 50-Inch 4K Ultra HD Smart LED TV (2015 Model) 797.99

Sony XBR55X810C 55-Inch 4K Ultra HD Smart LED TV (2015 Model) $898.90

Plus any others i might have missed. Not too keen on going 55" + though if price is right. as honestly i wont be sitting that far away from this tv (personal pref i sit closer to tvs than others) and the fact that i just dont have room lol.

I'm not a big fan of curved screens... maybe just me? it's great for the guy in the middle but the rest of the crowd ends up with a fucked up skewed viewing angle...

I dunno how much room you have... bedroom maybe?

of the 4 you listed I'd prolly do the Sony... I generally prefer LG or Samsung TVs... I'd get the 55" model of the Samsung you listed... for screens it's just really hard to go wrong with a Samsung... they're like... the company that invents shit like OLEDs :P

Later on in life you may want to use it in a bigger room or something... get all the screen you can bare to look at man...

EDIT: DISCLAIMER: this is strictly my opinion and my opinion is not a fact of life... I generally steer people into price to performance on these forums... but I've made unwise purchases because I wanted it and had the money for it too... I don't watch TV enough to justify it over a nice monitor even... but I do stream movies a fair amount enough to appreciate a good screen... get what you'll be happy with... bigger isn't always better and OLED is awesome but it's not currently as stable as LED and it's expensive as hell... everything I've said here is just steering you in the direction I would personally go... :)

All I know is that 4K OLED when released at some local retailers in my area (Sarnia, ON, Canada) said they would be priced at $5,000 to start. So do you want to pay something like that for a 4K OLED tv or get something else now?

When you can buy a TV that is rolled up like a mat and snap it like a rug because OLED, buy one then. Otherwise right now its just kind of a gimmick :P

How the hell do you get an OLED in Sarnia of all places. Isn't that like 3 cabins and a gas station on a dirt bike trail in the woods? Lol.
