I just upgraded my processor in my old PC to breathe some more life into it because the old dualcore processor capped out at 100% usage way too fast. I currently am running it with a Core 2 Quad Q6600 that I picked up for about $55, not bad. I'm trying to overclock it to about 3ghz if I can. The board im using is a Asus p5n-em HDMI, the most controll I seem to have over it is the FSB Under the "JumperFree" options. Help me overclock this thing guys.
Set the frequency to 3000mHz, and slowly incriment the voltage up, by about .001V each time, testing to see if you can get into Windows and test stability using Prime95 or IntelBurnTest. A good test for stability is longer than 30 minutes, and a great test is for 24-48 hours straight. I was able to get my i7 3770k to 4.6gHz with a 1.334 Vcore. I was going to go even lower, but I had to send my motherboard off to Asus for repair/replacement due to a dead DIMM slot.
Old school overclocking needs a pretty decent motherboard. Anyway, here is a guide/review:

I also found a CPU multiplier thats set at 6.0 and I can up it to 9.0
So far I've Inched it up from 2.4ghz to 2.7ghz by settting the multiplier to 9.0 and the FSB to 1200
I found why I cant get any higher Overclocks. If I ONLY run with my 2gb stick: http://www.crucial.com/store/partspecs.aspx?imodule=ct25664aa800 I can get it to run at 3ghz. but I dont have a second identical ram stick to run at 4gbs which is NEEDED. I have to Set the FSB to Unlocked which so far ive only been able to do with this single stick of ram. So i can have it set to 1333 and 800 for the ram.
