Old School Keyboard Madness

Hey everyone,

So I have about a dozen computer systems at work with ASUS P5A-B motherboards with AT keyboard connectors on them.

With most of these motherboards, we use an AT to PS/2 adaptor and they keyboards work just fine.

Recently three of these computers have stopped seeing their keyboards. So I picked up an old school AT keyboard, plugged it in, and voila! It worked again.

Now I'm unaware of any BIOS setting that could possibly cause this, nor does anything else short of aliens seem to answer why they're suddenly doing this.

There's no microsoft updates to worry about, as the computers are running on DOS 6.22, nor did they get a virus from the internet or a USB stick. Their operating software is the OS for the whole system and I have to keep a stack of floppy drives on hand for saving files.

Any ideas?

Were the old keyboards usb? I had a computer one time where all the usb ports shot out for some reason and I had to buy a new motherboard.

Some of them are USB. I use a USB - PS/2 adaptor, then a PS/2 to AT adaptor. These motherboards don't have USB ports built onto them. The software that is on the computer is also the Operating System. Built in 1996 with no major modifications since then, there is no USB support at all.

Hmmm.... Try connecting a keyboard that you know works with adaptors that you know work on the computers that are having the issues, it very well could be the adaptors going out.

Gave that a try, no love. I've got gremlins!

uhm. Well I'm not sure any more then lol, sorry man
