My sister, who is perpetually low on funds wanted a rig that could keep up with my friends and I regarding the games we play, so I took this as a challenge to build an old vintage rig and see how far we could push it to make it relevant once again. So far I got an ASUS p5n-e motherboard with 8 gigs of DDR2 memory and I was able to scrounge up a radeon 6970 graphics card... no idea what processor is in it, but I figure it may be a core2 quad 9650 or something so no need to worry about that. Once it is up and running I'll post the results... let's see if socket 775 is still worth having around :)
yeah 775 socket is old but and barely decent in today's age. Just clean off the cpu heatspreader really well if you can see what model it is. the motherboard is decent from what i have read. if its a q6600 they are great overclockers not sure about the 9650 though.

775 is still fairly good, because many games don't need crazy CPU performance, Dram doesn't really matter, and the PCIEx16 slots carry so much data. I would expect with a decent overclock and a good graphics card you will have no issues. That chipset overclocked should perform around the level of a FX-4 core CPU. Still, I am quite curious to see the results!
