OK gpu & good CPU vs GOOD GPU and OK CPU

Hello,

I am having a dilemma will my to-be computer build. I don't want to spend too much money so I am struggling between these two choices in my pc build:

AMD FX 6300 with an AMD radeon hd 7970

or

Intel i5 3570k with a Nvidia geforce gtx 760

The main problem is which will get me better gaming performance? the good CPU with an ok gpu or the other way around? One other thing- is the AMD radeon hd 7950 better than the 760? I have heard many different things and for virtually the same price I need to know which performs better.

Thanks for any help

You will get generally better gaming performance out of the 7970 combo. It is noticeably better than the 760, whigh is really just a 670.

The 7950 and 760 seem to trade blows, but are both extremely capable. I'd personally faver a high-end 7950, like the MSI Twin Frozr, over a 7970, but the 760 is also a very viable option.

And What about a FX8350 with 7950 or 760?

if really want an I5 -> I5 4670K and take advantage of all the goodies of Z87 mobos and newest Intel iGPU tech

True, the GTX760 comes with the same GK104 as the GTX 670, but has larger Memory bandwidth and better memory components, and NVIDIA GPU = PhysX built-in

but HD7950 comes with 3Gb DDR5 and therefore can load more data

If you can offer GTX770 4Gb (Gainward & Zotak in EU), you've got it all.

Can depend on the games you play, yes all games like a fast CPU & GPU but some perfer a CPU e.g. StarCraft II. List the games you would like to play.

Also consider that nvida cards have phyisx onbaord chip AMD dont and it gets offloaded to the CPU with fairly poorly coded software phyisx however not all games use phyisx
