Oh, just my OCD again (Steam/Steam icon)

Alright, so I've noticed that when I hover my mouse over the Steam Icon I have put on my Taskbar in Windows 7, it opens a little dialog box that says "Steam Bootstrapper Client". Much like how it will say "Mozilla Firefox" over Firefox, for example. Is it supposed to just say "Steam" or is this normal? Because I found it odd how when I went to make the shortcut on the Taskbar after searching "Steam" in the start menu, 'Steam Bootstrapper Client' came up. I'm pretty sure, even in the past, on my older machines it just would say "Steam" whenever you try and find an appropriate icon to launch Steam. I mean, what else would it say, right?

Now, some folks might remember, most of my apps are on my Caviar Blue. I reinstalled Windows 7 on my SSD. I'm on a fresh install after Windows 10 decided to pull a lovely Kim Jong Un move on my PC. Steam works as it should. No problems whatsoever. But dat description...

And it's the only thing i could find as an .exe in Steam's installation location. Steam Bootstrapper Client.

Can you post screen cap of what you see?

That happens on Windows 8 and 10, but I've never seen it in Windows 7. It's normal regardless.

Mine says just "Steam" when I hover my mouse over it.

Really? Interesting. Well, i went on my old Vista machine. And it shows the file location. Windows 7 seems to show the file description, not just the name of the file.

Also. I haven't had one of those automated update messages pop up for Steam ever since i reinstalled Windows. I DID have a steam.exe.old in my Steam folder. I got rid of the "old" extension, ran the .exe and it said that Steam was updating. Then it installed an update. Strange, huh?

And just out of curiosity.. how would i even uninstall Steam? Just delete the entire folder? Remember, i installed Steam on my HDD. Have my OS on my SSD and my HDD was never formatted. It was used with my first instance of Windows and Steam is working fine surprisingly. Just some little things are bothering me. One of the first things i tried (not sure why) was hitting the "uninstall" icon in the Steam folder after reinstalling Windows. It uninstalled... err, something. But it luckily didn't end up uninstalling Steam.

EDIT: Last one was May 4 evidently. Well, i hit "Check for updates" and it says Steam is up to date. I'll pay attention to the page and see what happens. But ever since i reinstalled Windows and have been running Steam, i have not seen a single "update news" popup from Steam.

Yes this is normal. This is the same on Linux. It's a.... bootsrapper.

Hmm... I keep thinking it should simply just say "Steam". But oddly enough when I went to look for the .exe in the start menu, Steam Client Bootstrapper came up as well when searching "Steam". And now there's the problem of the updates not coming in for whatever reason.

Just reinstall it.

That's a very easy way to look at it. Considering "just reinstalling" involves reinstalling all my games; which will take hours and hours. And not to mention the retarded amount of mods i'll have to reinstall for Skyrim and New Vegas. It makes me want to vomit just thinking about it.

Also, Steam is not in my list of programs in the Control Panel. As I had reinstalled Windows.

I did come across this video. But I'm not sure if it'll do the trick.

Yeah you can do it without uninstalling your games. If you have them on a separate drive then it's much simpler. Just unplug it and reinstall steam. Then link your drive once you reconnect it

No, no. You got it twisted. I have my OS on my SSD. Steam and all of its contents are on my HDD. I don't have Steam installed on one storage device and its games on another.
