Processor: AMD FX-8350

Graphics card: XFX Radeon R9 280 DD 3GB

HDD: WD Caviar Blue 1TB 7200RPM

RAM: Kingston hyper x 8gig

Chassi: Corsair Graphite 230T

Power: EVGA SuperNOVA 750B1 750W

Mobo: Asus M5A99FX PRO R2.0

I'm using a:

Main Rig:

  • 5960x [Currently not overclocked, haven't got the best OCer =P 1.2V for 4.2 meh ^^]
  • MSI X99s XPower AC Mobo -> Lots of expansion, not ASUS, and robust build quality. [Expectiing to keep this CPU / MoBo for about 5yrs =P]
  • Corsair Dominator Platinum DDR4 2666MHZ 4x4GB -> I'm well aware that they are overly-overpriced, but patience isn't my strong side if it's about technology and well, the Ballistix Sport that cost half, are still not in stock at my retailers soo... [built this 2 months ago].
  • Gigabyte R9 290x -> Cause had nothing but trouble with the only time I tried Nvidia [680 SLI] and I use Linux a lot ^^
  • Corsair AX850 PSU
  • Corsair Force GT 120gb [Windows 8.1] -> Bad SSD, slow and poopy, wouldn't buy again
  • Samsung 830 256GB [Arch Linux] -> Very decent SSD, running my Arch install I mainly use.
  • WD Caviar Black 1TB -> Nice drive, though getting slow and feels like it's going to die soon [bought mid 2012]
  • Case: Xigmatek Elysium -> Replaced the sidewindow with fan + mesh for all acrylic glass / noise dampened with KingMod stuff
  • Monitors:
    27" ASUS PB278Q 1440p [main]
    24" BenQ XL2410 1080p [right]
    24" BenQ RL2450 1080p [left]
  • Keyboard(s):
Ducky Shine 2 BlueLed / MX Blue
WASD Custom V1 green / white engraved keycaps / MX Blue
  • Mouse: Logitech G400s [<3 this thing]
  • Sound:
    ASUS Xonar
STX which uses the Cinch to feed my Onkyo A-9377 Integrated AMP to my Magnat Monitor speakers
JDS Labs O2+Dac Combo Limited Edition (6.5mm jack edition) for my BeyerDynamic DT 880Pro 250 Ohms
BlueMic Snowball Black [bought from Apple store, cheapest by far here x)]

  • Watercooling Setup:
  • Fans: 6x Noctua NF-F12 for the Rads [both Push only] 1x NF-FLX14 back Intake, DemciFlex Magnetic Fan filters
  • AquaComputer Kryos HF for the CPU [with 2011 mounting kit, bought for 1155 back then]
  • AquaComputer Kryographics Hawaii for my 290x
  • AlphaCool Nexxxos Monsta 360x80mm Rad Front
  • Phobya G-Changer 360x60mm Rad Top
  • AlphaCool D5 Pump + Accetal mounting thingy
  • Phobya 250mm Tube Reservoir
  • Aquatuning Compression Fittings
  • Masterkleer 1/2" White tubing
  • De-Ionised Water [mistake, see below] + Mayhem's Biocide

Why you should not use DeIonised water (the stuff for car batteries, irons and so on you get at basically any supermarket) :

For my first watercooling loop, I used Mayhem's pastel red. While looking awesome for the first months, it started changing color (went from blood red to deep purple, no smoke on the water though). Probably cause my two EK CSQ 680 FC blocks corroded horribly. Stay away from EK, please (copper, no nickel plating). Now I decided to go for destilled water instead. While googling and asking around on the internet, basically I was convinced that it did not matter whether I used de-ionised or destilled water. Well, when I upgraded to X99, I thought I'd clean my blocks while I'm at it, and they were heavily corroded. I learned, that DI water, will take back it's ions from the copper and therefore corrode it. Even AquaComputer blocks, which, looked like new when the EK blocks had the feeling of sandpaper inside and were all black-ish. Bad choice.

Therefore I'll tear down the WC-Loop next time I sit on 600ish bucks I can easily spend and replace the Case (On-switch kinda broken), the CPU and the GPU cooler.

  • Case: Lian Li PC-V750(B or WX, not sure if I want a window yet)
  • CPU Cooler: Noctua NH-U14S [cause of Dom Plat ram]
  • GPU Cooler: Either a G10 + h55 or something, a Raijintek Morpheus or a Alpenföhn Peter II.
While the G10 was the easiest and space-wise best thing to use as the top PCI-e slot is way too close to the RAM and the 14s will overlap it, and I'm somewhat afraid that the Morpheus / Peter II will not fit on the ward in the middle slot, I heard the G10 does a horrible job at cooling the blazing hot VRM of my 290x, any input on this? ^^

Hi guys,

Looking for some help on deciding on what to go with here.  I am building 2 machines, one for my wife and one for myself.  These will be a heavy gaming build with some light internet browsing sometimes. So keep in mind whatever parts I buy, I am buying 2 of them >.>

My goal is to have some quality parts, good performance with a mild overclock on the CPU/GPU.  Also trying to stick with

Here are the specs I am looking at right now.

CPU: i5 4690K

Motherboard: ASUS Z97-A LGA 1150

Powersupply: Corsair HXi 750w Platinum

RAM: HyperX Fury (White)

SSD: Samsung 850 EVO 250GB

HDD: 2TB WD Black

Case: NZXT S340 (White) (Bought Already)

GPU: EVGA 04G-2983-KR GTX 980 Superclocked

I am undecided on CPU/GPU cooling yet.  As far as those parts I have listed, is there anything anyone sees that is going to conflict? Or I can save money on? Or any suggestions at all?

Theme:

My wife's build is going to be Purple/White.  Mine is undecided yet, probably a 2-tone too.  I will be doing some minor case mods and painting to assist with the color scheme. I will also post pics and stuff throughout my build.

Thanks guys!

Case: ATX Mid Tower, Corsair Vengeance Series C70 Gunmetal Black

Mobo: ASUS Z97-Pro

CPU: Intel Core i5-4670k

Memory: Crucial Ballistix Tactical Tracer 8GB (2 x 4GB)

GPU: Sapphire HD 6970 2GB GDDR5 (I would like to get a GTX 970 soon)

PSU: RAIDMAX RX-850AE 850W

Hard Drive: Seagate Barracuda ST1000DM003 1TB

Boot SSD: Crucial MX100 128GB
