oh dude the nostalgia... my first rig was an AMD Athlon64 3500+, 1GB of DDR and a geforce 7600 GTS, which i eventually replaced with a reference 8800 GT in an antec P160W... and it was smothered in blue LEDs
Back then you could tell a LAN party was happening by the intense cobalt blue leaking out the windows... Those were the days lol.
I finally bought the parts for a gaming pc, I have been wanting to build one for a while. I decided against an SSD because I wanted to put the money elsewhere, and if I decide to overclock all I need to get is an after market cooler (I have one picked out).
There is also this old thing which has been brought back to life with some rewiring and a fresh instal of Windows 8 (didnt have a Linux CD lying around or it probably be Debian or something)
These would be the specs of my first build. Not too sure on a few things.
Specification:
CPU - i7 4770K
GPU - 780 ti (Not sure whether to go with the ROG Matrix or Kingpin)
MB - Asus VI Extreme Z87
RAM - Corsair Dominator Platinum 1600 Mhz 16GB
PSU - Corsair Ax860i with all white sleeved Corsair cables
SSD - (Intel 730K 480GB or 240GB) or (Samsung 512GB 840 EVO PRO)
HDD - WD Caviar Black 1TB (not sure about this)
Keyboard - Corsair K70 Red Switch
Mouse - Razer Mamba
Case - Stuck between Corsair 760T, Phanteks Entho Primo, Corsair 900D and 750D
CPU cooling - Most likely Kraken X60 Push-Pull with Noctua 3000 RPM fans or Corsair H110 with same fans
Case fans - Either Corsair White LED AF140 or Bitfenix Spectre White LED 140mm
Possible Bitfenix alchemy LED strips
External Samsung Blu Ray
I would be gaming on a 32" Sony LED 1080p display (200Hz and 12 bit colour depth) mainly playing either racing or FPS games on ultra details if possible.
I think that's it.
My only dilemma is the case and cooling in general. Watercooling would be possible in all cases but not sure whether an AIO cooler and high end card would be better. If I did water-cool, I would be using EKWB parts. Regarding heatsink fans, I would not be bothered with noise and would control them through the motherboard. I am purely looking for performance. Regarding case fans, maybe non-LED fans with LED strips would be better? Obviously airflow would be a priority here.
Noise isn't an issue for me, I prefer performance and aesthetics over silence lol.
Overall great system gives me good fps on crysis 3 with about 40fps maxed out (1440x900) and about 70-150 fps on BF4 (Maxed out Resolution scale 115%).
After cleaning up my wires a bit in my case decided it might be good enough to show off. Keep in mind I don't have a modular power supply and this case doesn't have cable management options (the back doesn't come off)
Love the case, best full tower on the market for $100. I put the heatsink sideways because I heard it was better but I put it back in the normal direction because it made temps a few degrees worse
