i just recently started looking into PC gaming and building. i have zero experience with building gaming PCS . i have watched a few of your videos and i want to know if what i have for a build im looking to do will work well enough.

the parts are: a NZXT Source 210 S210-002 case, a AMD A10-6800K Richland 4.1GHz, a ASUS F2A85-M PRO FM2 AMD A85X (Hudson D4) motherboard, some CORSAIR Vengeance 8GB (2 x 4GB) 240-Pin DDR3 SDRAM DDR3 1866 ram, a Seagate Barracuda ST1000DM003 1TB 7200 RPM 64MB Cache SATA 6.0Gb/s 3.5" hard drive, and a CORSAIR CX series CX430 430W ATX12V v2.3 80 PLUS BRONZE psu.

i priced it out from newegg to being around 450 without the rebate cards or mail in rebates. if you could give me some feedback on this it would be greatly appreciated.

Case labs s3, newly finished!

Since there doesn't seem to be much love for the test bench/open air cases on here I will present my personal everyday rig. This is a Kaveri build and I usually use a custom water loop but after overclocking this to 4.5ghz my temps barely moved so I saw no need for this build.

The Golden Rack

case: Danger Den Torture Rack ( any other Danger Den fans?)

cpu: AMD A10-7850k

motherboard: Asus A88X Pro

heatsink: Thermalright True Spirit 120m

ram: Corsair Vengeance Pro gold 8gb (2x 4gb) 2400mhz

ssd: samsung 840 120gb

psu: Corsair GS600

optical: LG dvd

other stuff:  front usb 3, 2x 120mm Thermalright x-silent fans and I also got 2 stainless steel fans grills (1x 120mm and 1x 240mm) that I had powder coated gold to match the motherboard.

P.S. I am not good a picture taking and my case is hard to take a picture of, so please be kind.

Very Cool, hows the dust factor?

Not nearly as bad as you might think. I blow it off once a month. I also have a custom soft cover I made to put over it when it is not in use to help out with the dust. I have had this case for years and it still looks brand new.

Have there been any laptops added yet? Because here is mine! :P

It's a Clevo W230SS. I built it from a barebone sans the CPU and TIM. I would have installed those as well, but the site I bought it off had $100 off the Core i7, which made it cheaper than anywhere I could find, and needed the TIM installation to tip the order over $1000 to qualify for free shipping. :D The specs are:

  • Intel Core i7 4810MQ (2.8GHz - 3.8GHz Tubro; 4C/8T)
  • 2x 4GB G.Skill Ripjaws DDR3-1600 CL9 @ 1.35v
  • Nvidia GeForce GTX 860M w/ 2GB GDDR5
  • 240GB Crucial M500 mSATA SSD
  • 1TB Toshiba SSHD (8GB NAND)
  • Dual-Band Intel Centrino 6235 Advanced N + BT 4.0

nice looking build. you got a lot going on in that space.

impressive laptop.

Few years old, but still gets the job done...  though not my greatest cable management job ever lol:

Biostar TZ68a+; i5 2500K @ 4ghz; TRUE 120 w/ Corsair Air SP120; 16gb Corsair Vengeance DDR3 1600; Powercolor HD6950 2gb reference w/ unlocked shaders; Antec Neo ECO 620w; OCZ 60gb SSD; Toshiba 3TB HDD; LG Blue Ray burner; Cooler Master HAF 922; 200mm stock front intake fan; 200mm stock top exaust fan; 120mm stock rear exaust fan; Corsair Air SP120 bottom intake fan;

That should cover all the details for anyone interested.

Nice to see another Thermalright fan. Did swapping the fan on the heatsink improve your temps? or did it even come with a Thermalright fan?

Thx. Trying to keep it as clean as possible.

Build 3 months ago.

It actually didn't come with a fan, but when I originally bought it for my Q6600 years back, I snagged a couple basic 120mm fans as well.  But when I made the jump from LGA 775 to LGA 1155, I could no longer fit 2 fans on the heatsink.  The Biostar board I chose is a little shorter than a standard ATX board, so the ram was in the way.

So I made the switch to the Corsair HSP fan shortly there after.  It lowered my temps a couple degrees vs the single standard 120 (the single corsair probably performs about as well as the two fans I had on it before, but it's hard to say since it's a different processor).  They dropped about another degree when I replaced the standard 120 on the bottom of the case as well.

I like them.  They work well.  My temps are a little lower, and this setup is quieter than my previous setup as well (of course, there is one less fan running in there, so I'm sure that's a lot of it).
