Would the USB-C KVM Switch v3 (with USB Power Delivery / 135watts) work for this Setup
Laptop 1: Work Laptop Dell Precision 3580
Laptop 2: Person Asus Zephyrus G16
Monitor: Dark Matter by Monoprice 34in Ultrawide Monitor - 3440x1440p, UWQHD, 165Hz
Laptop 1 (Work Laptop) I want to hook up to support USB C PD and have everything connected to it via the USB C Connection
Laptop 2 (Personal Laptop) Same as above but instead of USB C PD I will be using the power adapter that came with the laptop so I can use the 4070 GPU in the laptop but will be passing Video and Keyboard/Mouse over the KVM.
I want to make sure I will at least get 144HZ from the monitor to my laptops (I know thatās what the KVM is rated for at 1440P) and if I get 165HZ that would be great.
Getting a new office setup done and want a quick and easy way to swap between the 2 laptops but the L1Tech KVM is the only one that I can find that supports both the resolution and the refresh rate so just want to make sure what I mapped out above would work before I buy the KVM.
I tried the UGreen bididrectional ā8Kā USBC to Displayport 2.1 cable and can confirm that it is in fact bidirectional and has enabled VRR, but poorly insulated, as it tends to artefact on my setup.
I can also confirm that the CableMatters USB-C to Displayport 1.4 Cable works bidirectionally without it saying it does with Flawless VRR and it fixed my flickering and blackscreen issues, although at the trade-off of 120Hz max on WQHD, just putting it out there for someone else with the same issues
Got it. If a 4 PC USB C KVM is not on the table, could someone use the USB C combiner to connect a USB C PC to the DP DVM? Essentially, using the combiner in a āreverseā direction.
Really random question. I have a PC that outputs to 2 monitors (a normal monitor and one companion touchscreen). Only the normal monitor is connected to a KVM via DP. I donāt want the companion monitor connected to a KVM.
When I switch PCs on the KVM, my PC reconfigures the companion monitor as the only monitor. Itās as if the normal monitor no longer exists to my PC. Is there a way to prevent this from happening? I am using the 4 PC single monitor DP KVM.
Correct me if Iām wrong, Iāve been reading and watching videos and frankly the info on each KVM is very disjointed. So am I to take it Mouse roaming on the KM canāt be used on Multi Monitor machine much less on Linux. To see Win/Mac the only two supported platformsā¦
If Iām wrong and you can use on Multi-Monitor Linux systems can you use more than one USB connection to the same machine for separation? I have 3 machines but in their current setup that equates to 4 XScreens. Machine 3 XScreen 0.0 is to the left of machine 2 XScreen 0.0 while Machine 3 XScreen 0.1 is to the right of Machine 2 0.0. Which is to say Iād want the mouse to naturally pass from Machine 3 to machine 2 to machine 3 if moving left to right or vice versa.
My Desktop has an Radeon RX 7800 XT and I used to use 2x DP ports to my 2x 1440 @ 144Hz Monitors. My thought was to use the KVM with my Mac USB-C for power-delivery & using the 2x screens. Iām having some issues thought, possibly my setup / connection.
First I tried to use the Macbook as it is with USB-C and being able to use 2x screens with lid closed. That doesntā seem to be possible as I think itās a limitation of Apple silicon and have to be HDMI + USB-C. If thatās the case thatās still OK as my main reason for buying the KVM was to use keyboard + mouse and easily switch between desktop & laptop. If I have to use Laptop + 1x screen is fine compromise.
But what I cannot compromise is the Desktop 2x screens. My setup without KVM was 2x DP cables plugged in the outputs of the GPU. If I move these outputs on the DP outputs of the KVM and use a separate cable to connect 1x GPU DP out to KVM DP PC1 in I can only get one of the screen working. Keep in mind thatās just a DP cable. For the USB connectivity (keyboard and mouse) I used a USB-C cable to separately connect my desktop to the KVM. (keyboard and mouse works) but I cannot get the second screen to show anything.
As said the macbook issue is less of priority and the desktop is higher.
What are the hdmi 2.1 cable recommendations? Same as DP: fibbr or club 3d?
I recently picked up the HDMI 2.1 KVM w/EDID & Serial Control - Single Monitor - Four Computer.
I have connected to it
M2 macbook air, with a Dell Pro Smart Dock SD25TB5
Linux computer with Sapphire RX 5500
Windows computer with Sapphire RX 9060 XT
Iām having trouble likely caused by using a bunch of hdmi cables Iāve found around the house I donāt know what specs they are, but they say āHigh Speed HDMI Cable with ethernet e239426 awm style 20276 80(degree)C 30V VW-1 Honglin LM LFā. Things work okay when connected directly, but if I go through the KVM the mac causes the screen to blink every couple of seconds, and the linux machine doesnāt display out. I havenāt even tried the Windows machine yet.
Also Iām in Toronto, Ontario Canada so if thereās cable makers/distributors local that would be cool too. I ordered a cable from primecables dot ca
just wondering if that brand is okay or if I should go elsewhere. (Iād link but thatās not allowed for me)
May I request for a list of working/not working keyboards? I want to try other keyboards that isnt Keychron but I do not want to get bitten by buying something like a UHK80 and not have the KVM shortcut keys not being detected, or worse yet, the keyboard not being a known HID compliant.
@Level1_Amber may we have a list of known good, known bad and known workable Keyboards? Thank you very much.
Is anyone familiar with these DP optic transceivers? https://www.heyoptics.net/products/8k-displayport-fiber-cable I canāt seem to get FIBBR cables in australia for any decent price, and Iād prefer a detachable cable if Iām spending hundreds on a display cable.
